Spur strap/buckle PSA. Don't make the same mistake.

Any particular reason you did not go with a 2-inch strap and buckle

I had the 1.5 and buckles so that’s what I went with lol. Free is my favorite!

I went with 2” for better comfort on my leg. But, I really kind of feel that the 2” plastic buckle is flimsier than the 1.5”. If I had to do it over, I would use 1.5”

Just got my “new” to me used spurs today!! Got some Climb right ultra light pads on the way.
Shout out to flinginairos for the accessory strap idea for bottom of spurs!!! Climbed with them tonight and both spurs and straps worked flawlessly. Can’t wait to hunt with ‘em

I was excited but these things were a failure for me. Strap came loose as I was 10 feet up from the pressure of pulling the gaff out. Searching for plan C.

Take a look at Flingin and G2’s mods before chucking this - they make a huge difference and I feel more confident now.

I ordered the same lower straps as Flingin. Didn't work for me, they came loose first time climbing with them. Going to try ykk dual adjust buckles with 1" webbing next.

Gotcha. I’m trying the G2 mod today; replacing the top strap with a military buckle with 1.5” webbing.

Oh oh ....

Now granted I am still a spur noob, 200 lbs, and using tree gaffs on a soft maple. I was using some force to pull those out when the ladder lock popped loose. They may work just fine for him, but my theory on hunting gear is anything that fails me in the backyard has no place two miles into the mountains.

They are still pretty cool straps I'll put to use elsewhere and were pretty cheap.

I’m sure we will have to tweak the system as we get more time with it. I expect more failures. Glad y’all are practicing this summer to get the bugs worked out before hunting season.

Go to :40. The wave g hooks prevent slip.

I was going to suggest these for the DIY guys that can sew. I’m hoping the Sea To Summit straps work but they might not. I didn’t have any issues with mine but keep in mind I climbed once with them. If anyone else has problems be sure to post it up on here. I have an idea I might try with the 1” strap using the G hooks.

I curious how theses straps came loose, if they were tight and the loop was put on all the way in how is this possible, unless they work loose

I am a big believer that straps needs to locked down.

@elk yinzer where was the buckle sitting on your boot? Close to the metal eye on the spur, on top of your boot, pulled closer to the shank of the spur? Also, did you have the strap double wrapped around the shank of the spur?
