Stands, platforms etc.

I am intrigued with this Jason set any links or references? I was wondering about fall arrests and the such...shamefully I did not use anything besides a rigging belt and HHS tree rope...
TBWPODCAST he has a website with a lot of information for traditional bowhunting

This has kinda become the saddle hunting abandonment thread haha
I have nothing against saddles! The main reason I switched was my back hurting so bad but I have had better hunting using a long bow in my lock on stand with rock harnesses.

I cut my regular safety harness up and attached the strap with the loops with small straps DanO has a LM belt with loops for his waist belt. Some guys used climbing chains loops.

Any particular rock harness anyone recommends? I’ll be using a .5 stand moving forward but also doing the hybrid saddle hunting thing out of it at the same time. Would like something fall rated maybe in place of my regular saddle.

I used a black diamond vario speed harness for three seasons before switching to a saddle.

How'd you add loops? I was looking at that harness but wasn't sure how to go about adding loops.

Here's how I did mine...

This being my first year using a saddle I had some experience of getting busted early in the year by a few does, I quickly changed my tree selection and learned to set up different than I was accustomed with a hang on, I believe one of the benefits of the saddle hunting is being able to use a tree with more cover that if using a mobile stand that in past I wouldn't have considered. I have a LW climber and hang on that I can use if necessary, they collected dust this past season. As for comfort I still consider a saddle more comfortable than a conventional tree stand. My opinion may change as years go by but for now my mobile set up will remain a saddle and platform.

I agree with this. If a saddle isn’t more comfortable than a mobile hang on you doing it wrong!! Lol

I’ve used a saddle almost exclusively the past 3 years, just using ladder stand and heavy hang ons prior to that. I’ve loved the ability to be mobile and absolutely agree it’s more comfortable than any hang on. But, I’m planning to try a lightweight hang on next year, mainly due to visibility and concealment.

I figure “hiding behind the tree” works well for the things you can see in front of you, but you’re fully exposed to anything behind you. I’d prefer to be hidden from the things behind me I can’t see and timing movements to not get picked off by anything in front of me.

Maybe I'll just go full circle and go back to a climber. I've been looking at crossbows too. Social media hunter's heads will explode.

I’m actually heavily considering buying another LWHC when they come back in stock lol. Yikes. Not sure if I’ll actually do it or not but I am considering it.

I have a lone wolf sit and climb I’d sell if anyone is interested

I hunted a huge piece of public land last year during rifle season that was full of trees that would have worked with my lwhc and I wished I had brought it with me. The spots I normally hunt have a much narrower selection available which is why I went away from it. Haven’t used it the past two years but I’m glad I still have it and wouldn’t hesitate to use it if it works for the situation.

I had the XOP hand climber and it was a PITA to climb with IMO. But I think part of the problem was that the belts weren't stiff enough. Allegedly LWCG is going to have a climber of some type. I can only imagine the price though. Also Novix may eventually come out with one. Wouldn't be bad to have in the aresenal.

I always want to know what is on the other side of the hill, across the creek or on that other hedgerow, same with hunting equip. and stuff, I hope I"m never content, and it is always something new or old to try for that perfect elusive set up.

Oh yeah for sure. Wish I would have kept mine too but really wanted the money for something else at the time. The spots I hunt normally seems like either a climber would work, or no type of stand at all will work. Seems like there’s almost never an in between. I’ve tried enough different pieces of gear now at this point that I think I’m finally finding the gear or types of gear I like and will stick with.

Pretty sure I’ll never be content either way. It is fun to try new things and kremlins of evolving. But I do want to get to the point that I have a few pieces of gear that are “tried and true” and I’ll keep around despite anything new that comes along. I think I’m starting to get to that point now.

Oh yeah. If those belts were floppy that would a real pain. The LW climber has nice and stiff belts.

I would be really interested to see what LWCG comes up with for a climber if that’s the case. Was wondering about that actually but kinda figured they may not be interested in going there. Will be a pretty penny if so I’m sure.

Yeah I’m hoping Novix comes out with one too. Been waiting on that. If I do get another one it’ll likely be a Novix I’m thinking.
