Been busy here and haven’t had much time to hunt.. Got home an hour early and grabbed the old Ithaca deerslayer and watched over the ravine in the back of my property. No deer sightings. Was wet rainy gun opener.. zero deer sighted on drives from the normal group I hunt with. Good for next years bow season.

Well friday evening, the wife and kids were at the inlaws after work. So I decided to check some close trail cams to see what was going on around the house. I took the 7mm for a walk just in case something showed it self. Check the first 2 cameras and started out for the last, I had to cross the neighbors field to get to it. I peaked over the crest of hill and already at 315 there were 18 deer in the field. So I decide to throw the bipod on and lay down to see what happens for the evening. 42 doe entered the field along with 8 buck, a shed buck, a spike, a half rack 5, a tiny 7, a tiny 8, 2 small 8s and this fella.
Not exactly the big one I been chasing but it's been a long hard season, I'm almost out of vacation, I have no more browning points with the wife, and I'm happy with him!

Congrats. Nice buck!

3rd public land buck from the saddle this season this morning with my trusty old 30-30. Got out last Saturday too for an all day adventure. Saw 4 buck from my saddle throughout the day and almost bagged a 100” 8 point. He fed around me in the thicket for 45 min or so but only made it to 56 yards of me (had my bow). All in all a great day out but unfortunately the only buck that gave me a shot was a spike so I left him walk. Might get out tomorrow morning to try and fill my last LA buck tag before I go to PA for the holidays but weather is looking a little wet so we will see.

Apparently TapaTalk doesn't want me on SH anymore.... anyone else having issues? says I'm not logged in/dont have permissions, etc. but it shows that I'm logged in.....weird. Anyway, haven't deer hunted in forever so no help to y'all

Ok, apparently deleting and reinstalling fixed my Tapatalk issues. Anyway, went this morning in a nice, crisp 16°. Walked into a bunch of pigs on the way in and of course my rifle was on my shoulder and unloaded. Had one at 10yds while I was loading, but he took off before I could get on him. Pigs were , grunting, running and fretting all around me, lol. Picked one out at 12 yds and as I was drawing down on him he took off. Wound up without so much as a shot fired.

About 10 yards further and I found the trail they were on......

Wound up hanging on this point. Didn’t like it very much because it was way too open for my tastes....

When came down I followed the pig trail and if I had stuck to my original plan the fool things would’ve walked into my lap. Oh well, such is life.

Well I didnt have the year i was hoping for, not that it was a bad year, just that I was hunting hard for the biggest bucks I could find on my area. That buck I took is respectable but I find myself slightly disappointed that I had so many encounters and made just as many mistakes. On the other hand I learned a lot again this year.

The flintlock season opened here in PA saturday, I was on deer most of the afternoon, with good snow on the ground, I shot 3 times and missed all of them. I shoot this rifle often to know something was up, went to range sunday and it was grouping a foot low at 50 yards. So I got it back on target grouping well at 80 yards.
Yesterday morning I went to WV to hunt the opener of the four doe rifle season, i walked a couples miles and didnt even cut a fresh track, so around lunch I decided to head back home and take the flinter for a walk again knowing it was on again I had my confidence back. I knew thered be deer on the pipeline with the snow melting and grass being exposed again. I took a peek over the ridge and sure enough a good handful of doe were already out feeding. So I made a mile wide circle to get below them and started up to make a stalk when I got busted by atleast 6 deer about 200 yards from the pipeline. The didnt smell me just saw me and kinda walked away. I sat for 20 minutes in that spot hoping they didnt push the does off of the clearing. I started making my way up to the edge of the pipeline and about 20 does were there already inside 100 yards. I stayed low and got to a large tree right on the edge and got setup for a shot. I took a shot at a big doe at 72 yards. She dropped on the spot!

I only took one deer from the saddle this year, and didnt take a picture.... but this makes 4 deer on the year between 2 states. Pretty tame by my standards but the freezer is full, and I have 2 racks on the wall. Now I have a lot of work to do for next year! Good luck to all who can and are still hunting! Be safe, happy hanging!
