Team 2 is #1 - 2018 Thread

So my lease had logging start last week. Property owner had given me a heads up but said they never start when they say they will but this time they did. I still have plenty of acreage to hit it’s just going to suck as it will carry into the rut period and it was a great section of the lease. Going to stay optimistic and not be picky this year. Hopefully the youth hunt isn’t impacted much in 10 days. Opener will be 10/6. Long term this will present some year by year changes as they wait a year for it to start to thicken up then spray it all to kill it real good to plant pines. It will eventually be great but just some annual adjustments to make. I actually like that challenge. Thankfully saddle hunting came my way last year as it will be a lot of mobile sets rarely in same spots.

Well just in time for our opening this week temps have been 95ish. Supposed to see a cool front this weekend so we’ll see...

In other news, I was able to get my two youngest out for youth season. My daughter with bow and son with the savage in 277 wolverine.
Unfortunately for my daughter all the deer she saw were 90+ yards out. But has a long season ahead for regular archery season.
My sons hunt was allot different, on a Sunday evening we saw 10 deer total and he knocked down a good doe at 167 yards. It was a great night!

We get points when our kids take deer too, right?? Our youth season is this weekend and hope to get out with my daughter. Unfortunately we'll probably be in our tower blind instead of saddles since I still only have one saddle and one platform so far.
 
That's outstanding, awesome, fantastic, what a youth season!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM BOTH!!
Good shot for the young man and I love the way the young lady did not give up with the bow and stayed with it. She has grit for not changing to the gun. Gotta give it to her!! (HIGH 5)

Well I'm still waiting on my saddle plus some additional medical adjustments before I get fully in a tree. However I'm hoping to take deer put of my saddle here in Georgia this fall. I'm going to MT for an elk hunt, however that will be with a rile. I'm hoping my mantis will be here when I get back, will hunt AL and hopefully MO as well. But i'll make sure to get some points.
 
Thanks guys, yeah she’s got more grit than most adults I know...my money is on her to get one. I’m going to try really hard to get her in front of a nice buck this year, there just a couple left here in KS

I’d never tell my Son this, but that was really a chip shot for him. He regularly shoots on a Jr. CMP smallbore team, his groups are getting pretty good, and he always seems to cool his jets and not be an adolescent boy when the shot counts lol. He put a perfect 35 yd shot on a deer when he was 7, using a crossbow. Not sure why I get so nervous, he’s probably got a better average than me

Alright guys, just hours away from early doe season! I'm going to try to screw it up by filming and using my bow instead of just using the shotgun. Hopefully I'll get us some points and decent video.

T minus 10 days for archery opener........ youth hunt this weekend though - pumped for that - will be getting my 14 year old to hang a bit in my kestrel - would be cool to see him pop one from it
 
Starting to cool off finally here, going to try and get out soon!

Also was drawn for a second urban hunt here, so I have 4 weeks total of some doe filled urban areas, pretty stoked for that.
 
Looks like I'm not going to have a saddle for the 10/1 opener so anything I kill won't count for the contest. Bummer, because the first few days the does are dumb and easy. :(

My freezer's too empty to hold off for the saddle to come in and the bank account too empty for a plan B.
 
Well youth hunt weekend fell through. Pretty disappointing but son was sick all week and buried with school work. VA opener FINALLY will get here Saturday. I swear we have the latest opening date. @vabwhntr and I can finally get rolling. Everyone else should be at it - what’s been happening??

I’m out this morning. Low of 73, high of 88. Doubt I’ll see much. And if I do, it’ll get shot from my summit climber as I’m still waiting on my saddle. :(
 
Our bow opener is today but due to work and family I might not get out until Friday night. Our youth hunt was 9/22 and my daughter shot a small fork horn. No saddle for her yet so we hunted from the elevated blind. Can't wait to get in the saddle.

Congrats. I have one coming on the 26th. Hopefully we can still sneak out a day or 2 in the rut.
