Team 3 Thread

I’m taking my 8 yr old out to our place in East Alabama to hopefully get his 1st deer Saturday. We have stayed off of the property all season except to keep them fed. Between my brother and I we have 5 cell cams out. We have been getting quite a few pics daylighting deer over the last 2 weeks. I think the wind is going to be right for Saturday afternoon. We have a doe family group showing up consistently an hour before dark. He’s been hitting the 10 ring 4 out of 5 times @ 50 yds which is plenty good enough down south. I may be hoping to much, but I think we can get it done with the old Savage 110 youth model 243. He’s pretty pumped about going, but I think I might be pumped more than he is.

I’m going in the morning even though I’ll only have about a 4 hour nap. I’ve hunted every Thanksgiving morning since I was 4. Im not about to miss one over lack of sleep.

Good luck everyone who is out this morning and Happy Thanksgiving!

I am staying home today but have the next 5 days off, pretty confident I will fill at least a doe tag or two. I gave half of the meat from my 8pt to a family friend who is on hard times right now so I'd really like to get two more deer in order to have enough meat to do some fun stuff with in the kitchen this winter, but just one more would make me happy, too.
 
Shot a buck an hour or so ago. 35-40 yards, hit looked high and he didn’t act hit. Sent another one and he ducked it and bout had a chance at a 3rd. He kinda just walked off slowly and disappeared into the woods. Had a pretty big mechanical on so hopefully blood is easy to find and I got into the lungs somehow.

Well I found my arrow & think it’s brisket. I went back & grabbed a hound. He found blood about 25 yds from the arrow & it was decent but darker. Followed across 2 ridges about a 1/2mile . The blood started getting to about specks & I hit a property line I don’t have access to. I saw eyes about 100-150 yds up. I’m gonna hunt in the morning for the gun opener then try & get permission at lunchtime. It’s gonna be 25 degrees overnight so hopefully she’ll be in that bed…..IMG_3419.jpegIMG_3418.jpeg

Thanks so I only took maverick the beagle but goose is a mountain cur / plott mix ( we think) she drifts alot & if I don’t have any blood then I usually just take maverick he’s nose to the ground. There a good pair, nice to have useful pets…..lol. I hope to keep working with them. Kinda trial & error but he’s got a lot of natural ability
 
I’m going back in to a spot I haven’t hunted since early Oct tomorrow am. I’ve got regular pics of a buck I’ve been wanting to kill all season in this area. I’ve just been waiting on an East wind and finally got it. I’ve got high hopes and low expectations. We will see.

I’m out this morning bow in hand in a river bottom pinch on our place. It’s the gun opener & I’ve been always been out gun in hand so this feels weird….. I opted to stick closer to home & try to get permission late morning to finish out that track from yesterday. 25 degrees ( cooking in the iwom)

Knew I’d get a good picture of him with where he came from yesterday. Left side is broke off or just didn’t grow right but a nice deer for our property.
