Just a little guy, I think he's 6 but it might be 5. It happened fast enough I only seen 3 on one side. He was 7 or 8 yards when I shot, exposed on the ground. I had 2 deer in 6 minutes. I thought the first one busted me. I had just told a buddy I was only scouting today. I had been "hard at work" at work today, lol, e-scouting and asking y'alls advice. :tearsofjoy:

I was headed northish to check interesting map stuff but I had that first deer a touch south, so I turned around so check it out. I'm standing there all like a ding-dong and it was like " hey what's that". So I froze. Lucky I got my release out and had nocked one. But it's thick and I thought #1 was gone so I put it back in the quiver. Don't want to trip or anything, especially given the whole knee thing. ( steroids are apparently amazing) well here he comes. Hand trouble getting an arrow out, i tried for the XL trifecta at 1.5" wide trifecta because this was extra close or nothing. It un-screwed a little and squeaked. Sweet. Grab another one, got it nocked. Still good. POV is the one with the red circle. Going great, right? Lol. There's branches like 6 inches or less from my chest and I gotta stick my left arm out to shoot. All good, right? Pack on, hat on top of my head like a clown, exposed(ish). Perfect :).

Well my PR kept trucking just enough and I didn't hesitate AT ALL. ( side note, thanks,! Dad! Who has never been a hunter and I doubt has ever shot a bow but criticized how long I was aiming at 30 yards steep downhill practing at their house over the summer. " you're asking that deer to stand there an awful long time. ")

Anyway I shot through that little hole, I did honestly question it but ya can't miss from 7 or 8 if you get drawn and anchored? Right? I didn't get the drum pop but he gave the muke kick, went 4 or so yards. Stopped. Tried to turn around and did wbble flop and that was that. WHEW!

Sorry for the long post. I appreciate y'all putting up with me! Sorry I stink at proofreading. I doubt any of y'all care but I very much would have preferred to be tethered so it'd count but that's not what went down. I also have to admit that the wind had been taken right outta my sail in-between posts but it's all good! I'm happy! And this Grinder is gonna keep on grinding!

T4TW!!

Great job @Horn that's a great deer! Public grinding baby! Don't worry about that silly contest. Best part of the season is coming up here. No pressure now.

Nice shot Horn, and thanks for the long story. Gets the rest of the team excited for the weekend.
The buck I shot last year I also shot from the ground through brush like that at extremely close range, but I either hit a twig or I just aimed really poorly because my arrow entered way back through his guts (thankfully I hit high also and i think i nicked an artery along his spine because he died really quickly in spite of the bad shot).

I was very nearly too high, very happy he went down as fast as he did! I suspect I also hit an artery or similar. I thought I hit it's esophagus when I was checking it out, but I was  just below it. Not much blood on the ground but it was a flood when I opened him up. I am thinking about making a post to ask if anyone knows more about a hit like mine.

Glade your doing the autopsy the best you can. I never thought about it much early on until watching the guys on you tube talk about it. There is a lot to learn about the inside of a deer if you spend a few moments going thru it and tracing your path. The deer my kids have shot I have been trying to do thru the process with them to. Show them what's in side and what you want to shoot. Biology class as well.

Good luck man.
I’ve seen 2 young’s bucks so far. I wish it was colder.. but it feels great to be in the woods.

I had a plan. I even got out of bed. Then Mr Lazy bones over ruled that plan and went back to bed lol. Headed out for a mid day to dark hunt though.

Good luck!

I just passed on 5 points. Had a doe come behind me at 18 yards. She kind of snuck up on me, so I'm not sure I could have drawn on her without spooking her, but it would have been an easy shot. I'm looking for bigger deer today though. Hopefully a buck follows her scent trail.
