Team 5 Thread

My dad and brother used to make the drive from SC to MI for deer camp every year. I went once. Michigan wasn’t for me. They enjoyed the heck out of it though.

This is the last deer my dad ever killed. He was 85 at the time…..

I agree. What a legend!
Here I am moping because we had crap weather and the weekend was mostly a washout ; with wind switching last night and having to move my set up ….
Peepaw was just adding a layer to knock studs down at 85 ✊

Took a little internet break the last few days (the leg strap thread reminded me why real quick lol), had to check in. You guys are getting after it! Cold front coming in here and I’m off work Friday (debating taking Monday and Tuesday) and then Thursday and Friday next week. Corn still isn’t out by the spot I want to get into, going to have to man up and take the long way home I think. Can’t go through it, farmers can plant too close together now to do the old sneak and I’ll bust anything out within 1/4 mile. It’s also so dry I’ll bleed to death if I don’t cover every inch of my skin.
Figured I’d be on the board by now but urban only had bucks in range, only got 3 does last year in my first year so I didn’t earn the incentive tag for a buck, and the does haven’t been cooperating.
Keep hammering, i’ll try to get something on the ground.

Yep, haven’t opened that thread and don’t intend to. Lololol

I haven’t been but once since I killed the doe on the 7th. Had to go to Florida for work for week and dealing with slackers since then, lol.

I’m flipping the switch and going back into kill mode here shortly though

I’m beginning to think I suck at deer hunting but am really good at nature walks with a weighted pack.

Back at it tomorrow morning, temps down under 30 by then. We’ve reached the point of deer season where my truck is just layers of gear needed from 80 degrees down to negative temps, empty cans of Copenhagen, and the stench of failure. And it’s still October.

I hear ya brother. I put in a sit early this am on a scrape and went to a new location tonight hoping to catch Lawn Boy on the acorns. But no luck.. I came down at dark and packed up my rope and started to slip out. I took about 10 steps and heard a deer take a a couple hops away. It must have come in after I got down - it didn’t sound like a mature deer - but I’m still concerned it was LB. That stand site has so much potential and I’d like to be able to continue to hunt it. Timing is everything.

New Wood Bros saddle was here when I got home so I moved dump pouches over to it and I’m going to give it a go tomorrow, see if it gives me a little luck. I’m not superstitious but I am a little stitious.

Hitting up antlerless urban only zone, know that helps the team less if I do manage to find something but it’s my last weekend I drew in one for a bit. The family likes the meat and I’d like to try to earn that buck incentive tag for next year.

Month in I’d be glad to be tempted to let an arrow loose at something that isn’t a squirrel or coyote no matter where I was sitting anyway! Haha

Did you get an original or deluxe?

Original, I just grabbed one when I saw the going out of business and how highly people spoke of them.

Second year saddle hunting and only third archery (I was your Midwest shotgun I hunt deer December 4th and 5th before this) and I hadn’t found this site yet so I bought a Tethred kit to begin with. To be honest I know it isn’t for everyone but I’ve been real happy and comfortable in it. I’m also very happy to support a member and give a new thing a try. Based on what people say on here I’ll wish I’d have bought a deluxe to start with but maybe this will even be an upgrade.

Haha. Im with you, I feel like most of my season has been rucks with gear that may collectively lower my kill percentages and toss in climbing trees near marginal sign once i hit a certain fatigue point.

Sat a few times this weekend , very few shots heard during muzz opener and last night temps dropped but woods were quiet.
hunted a scrape by timber cut where I could see new rubs on the edge of heavy cover I scouted this spring .
Ah I love me some night time sign gets me every year when I want the rut activity to fire up.
Good luck team, looks like temps should be dropping
