Team 6 Thread

Got the yard work I'm going to do prior to season done today, thirteen pickup truckloads of leaves . . . yeech! Tomorrow is a cooking day, packing my colder weather gear and final prep for the two week camp stay. I'm leaving Wednesday to head for camp. The camper will stay there until the 13th of November. It was hard to leave camp on Sunday. Action has been hot and heavy but I still have things to do prior to disappearing for 2 weeks. Got to keep the wife a little happy. :tearsofjoy:

That is the most important hunting strategy there is. Otherwise, it looms in your mind and not only does that distract from hunting effectiveness, it takes from the overall enjoyment of the process. Or, just do it anyways and beg for forgiveness later!!!! LOL.

Our regular season begins on the 16th. I was going to take this week off and I most likely would have if I didn't get a buck. Now I'm trying to plan the rest of the season and trying to decide if going elsewhere completely would be better or just staying local and shooting some does to add to the points. Gun season is such a tradition but I really don't enjoy it to the level of bowhunting and it suppresses overall day time deer movement for a long time. They are edgier than ever afterwards and so you have to wait until there is harsh weather to get them moving OR just try and push closer to suspected bedding but that's such a gamble once the shooting starts. Interested to hear other people's strategies once gun starts in your state and areas?

Honestly, I've been a "beg for forgiveness later" kind of guy when it comes to hunting. In my younger years it destroyed a lot of relationships. Then, 35 years ago, I met my charming wife who claims to look forward to deer season as her vacation. Not sure how I should feel about that but if it lets me be in the woods I'll take it. :tearsofjoy:

I try to be in a tree with a BOW when gunshots are ABOUT TO BE going off. If they’ve been shooting for more than a day or two, I agree that movement is likely suppressed until the more crepuscular hours.

Had my target buck come in with a doe while I was still climbing the tree tonight. She was 20 away, he was 40. She was just offwind and may have caught a whiff or she hit my foot prints. Either way, I hauled up my bow and got an arrow nocked undetected. We stood in the standoff for more than 20 minutes with me hanging and standing on my stick. Eventually she decided the buck was less threatening than whatever she smelled so she turn toward him. Last time I saw them they were headed north. Good heart start though! I love the rut!

Small buck down. This guy had all kinds of spirit with three busted off tines. I saw him through the timber about 150 meters away, and called him in with a few grunts. He came in looking to get the puck out of the corner.

That is 10 points for us...

Kicka$$ congrats

What is the story with this pic. Did you drag him into the swamp for the gram? :)

Hell yeah! Congrats! How small was he really lol? Pic makes him look like a busted up old bruiser. Great shot!

Nice work, @MJH way to keep us moving up. I won't be out this weekend but I should be out next weekend. My time in the woods should start picking up here as flag football is done, high school football is almost over, and my time off needs to be used!

I hunt flooded timber. When I shot him he was in knee deep water. I dragged him up on that root ball for the photo and to help me get him into my canoe. I was hunting alone, and it isn't easy to lift a dead deer into an empty canoe. I'm old, "the gram" isn't a thing to me...

Neat! Do you purposely hunt the flooded timber or by necessity? I'm curious if its a strategy or just an environmental factor you need to deal with.
