Team 6

Hey Team 6, any thoughts on an avatar? This is a thought I took from a Morrell high roller target. It could stand alone, I think everyone would get the point. Someone with more talent could expand on it integrating Team 6 or High Rollers or Team 6 High Rollers or something completely different as I am open for suggestions. I put it in my avatar so you could see what it looks like. GO TEAM SIX!

It’s a terrible picture I know. But I watched these 2 sparing last night from where I’m working. That third deer is a decent looking buck as well. Gotta talk to the boss and see about hunting here!

This tropical storm put a damper on bow hunting for the weekend. I'm hoping it's out of here by the time I'm out of work Monday. I don't mind hunting in the rain but blood trails get washed out too quick. Too bad too cause the deer have been out feeding in the neighbors yard across the street hours after daylight and hours before dark since the storm came in.

I put in a good hunt Friday night. Saw 3 does and found a bunch of rubs where I expected from one of the bucks I'm chasing. Got some good intel where he might be feeding so that will probably be my Monday night spot if it works out. Going to try to get out scouting this after and check out some previously scouted spots for fresh sign under the cover of this storm.

Had a pretty good scout. Unfortunately a couple spots I was excited about have no sign but a couple others look really good. The areas that have acorns have a ton of acorns so I'm sure that is why the other spots are dead. The areas with sign were near where all the white oaks were dropping. I've never seen this many acorns on the ground. They're all over. Oh yea, and I had to yell at a couple bears that were walking right at me. Pretty big one too.

Team 6 Howdy from Texas! I am less than a week away from the Archery opener, September 30th. This year is going to be a little different because my second born son arrived last week! Luckily my in-laws live on 60 acres out in Austin county that is a text book rut property since it has a solid resident doe population so things don't really get exciting until the end of October into the beginning of November when rifle season opens. I have 4 hang on stands that I hunt from in my Cruzr XC. Unfortunately I don't have any intel on the current deer population due to trail camera issues and a baby on the way but I have had success on the property since I started hunting it 3 years ago. If I'm lucky I will also get to spend a few days in the Sam Houston National Forest hunting public land (which is how I found saddle hunting) but my scouting efforts have limited and so has my success outside of hogs.
Austin county doesn't have the muy grande bucks that South Texas has but they are larger than hill country deer. The last two bucks I've shot have dressed around #120. These are my last two saddle hunter contest deer. Glad to be on the team!2021 Contest Buck.jpg

Maybe Murphy will open bow season again.. but I’m not holding my breath

I doubt it. The whole season is screwed up anyway and I don't even want to hunt it. The new rules defeat the point of a management program. And honestly if I'm going to bowhunt them I want to be able to bait them to bring them in close for a good accurate shot. If they really wanted to let you bow hunt them without bait, give me a bear tag for a good chunk of the bow season so I can take my shot when it's available. 1 week isn't enough for me.

Another good setup last night but nothing showed. I'm home with a sick kid right now but my wife told me she'll come home in time so I can hunt tonight since I had to take a day off. Gonna hit the spot up where I saw the bears. There was a nice rub line coming out of the bedding area and there were a couple of rubs and scrapes scattered around where a lot of acorns were dropping.

Kids change everything huh? We had our second daughter last year. I bust my butt to make sure things are good when I'm home and go as smooth as possible when I'm not but I'm lucky my wife lets me hunt as much as I do. It's not close to as much as before kids but I feel lucky that I still get to hunt more than most.

Those look like some great bucks. Let me pull up a few pics to share. I think it's a great idea, let's see some of the bucks you guys have all shot!

Congrats on the second son! That's awesome.

Ok so that was fun, a trip through memory lane. I just spent the past 2 hours organizing hunting photos from the last 5 years that were only on my phone. As promised here they are. I even went back to 2010 to share.
