Well I dropped the ball again this past Friday on again what would’ve been my biggest deer.. not sure what’s going on but that’s for carrying the team guys. Hit him lower than expected, pass through through brisket.

On my honeymoon now, so good vacation and reset then hopefully be back to killing mode and not wounding deer..

I was out on Monday and got busted for the second time by a decent buck… been a roller coaster ride for sure. Worked the past two days and I’m back out now. Bumped 3 does on my way in. This spot usually has something lurking in day light historically between 16th-20th of November. Let’s hope I’m in the right tree. Today and tomorrow is still archery, but Saturday is the firearm opener.

My #1 that I shouldered in Halloween showed back up on edge of shooting light this past Saturday so we’re still in it. Had 2 younger bucks cruise through early this morning. Has been quiet since I’ve gotten back, I think a lot around me are locked down about now.

Impatiently waiting for the second go around

Where the skys are so blue!
Tough day.

Woke up 3 times last night to trucks circling the boat ramp. The 3rd time one truck launched a boat and the other left. This was at like 3am. Guy headed right towards my setup. I kinda suspect boat dude was gonna slip across the public onto some private and do a little hunting of the king's deer.

I pulled my stuff and left. Didn't feel like hunting that area if it was getting hammered, and didn't care to spend another night. Came home, napped, did some yard work, and headed to a local spot.

Water at the ramp was super low. Hard drop-off at the end of the ramp, and I went over it. Had to go wading to pull my trailer frome up and over the ramp. Starting the hunt tired and soaked.

Been a weekend! One more reason to add to the list of why I don't usually hunt opener.

I hunted until noon and didn’t see a thing and had enough so I came home. I put a lot of time into the archery season and sadly came up short. Now I’m kinda running off fumes… might give it a rest for a day or two and get back at it!

Half day of nothing on a fair spot which was the best I could do with the wind and rain.
Tomorrow should be a better day for wind at a active rut funnel. I going to try a make a full day of it. It will be a sanctuary 2.0 kit with wool under layers and my Baffin Titans if I am going to be stationary all day.
Good luck

Does seem to be grouping back up here in NJ, finally started to see more mature does back with the fawn groups. Saw a nice 8 pointer bedded in someone’s yard on my drive out of my spot this morning.. we finally have a storm is pushing through with a wind switch. Plan to be in the tree tomorrow am when the rain stops

nothing like seeing your target show up at 655am 80 yards away and then you have to leave by 915am while he’s still bedded with a doe..

Watched him through glass for almost 2.5 hours. Never got him to commit with some light grunts and bleats. Think I snuck out without any bumps - he was pre occupied by 3 smaller bucks trying to get in on the action
