Team 7 Thread

If you worked in the NICU at South. You must know Brenda Garrett maybe Coombes when you were there. That’s my Aunt Ninnie.

I know Brenda very well. Her husband Rod was a respiratory therapist too. I always enjoyed working with her!

What are your guys set up. This is my 4th year in the saddle. Ran a lone wolf climber a lot before that. Year one I ran a kestrel, a ROS, then a predator and when through a slew of sticks. Muddy pro, then modded hawks, then beast sticks. End of the season I was back to a ROS. Season is 4 months long. Year two same kestrel but I used my 20” DIY sticks before 20” sticks were all the rage. 2nd half of the season I onesticked. I rocked the ROS all season. Year three multiple saddles all of my own making, onesticked with a flat scout on my stick continued rocking the ROS. Now year four. Still one sticking, put a flat monarch this year. Still staying with the ROS and still in saddles I made.

Lol, I’m still using a RCH and a sit drag. I’ve got some heavy muddy stagger steps and I just stand on the top of the top step. I picked up some wild edge steps but just couldn’t get the hang of it so I sold them. I’m currently looking for some sticks but haven’t settled on anything yet. I still have a first gen Buckshot Bigshot climber that I’ll haul in from time to time.

Cruzr XC
Predator platform
Mini beast stick clones I made during the off season
DIY HYS strap
Sterling Oplux ropes
Arcteryx knee pads
Bowtech Assassin that I bought off EBay

I started with a Tethrd Mantis saddle, full length hawk helium sticks and safety line that came with a safety harness for my tether and lineman rope. Comfort was not good with the Mantis and packability was not good with the hawks.

I’ve been thinking about maybe upgrading the bow after this season as well as upgrade my pack to a Mystery Rance pop up 28 or Eberlestock X2

Original kestrel slightly modded. 9mm Sterling htp tether and lineman's belt with a ropeman 2 on each and metolius brave screw lock carabiners.
My tried and true golden buck steps or squirrel steps with the boat buckle.
7 wild edge stepps with a knaider only.
2 hme hooks on a strap for my pack, custom 3d printed bow holder I made.
Mystery ranch popup 28.

Been running that setup for a while now. I probably picked up my first golden bucks in 2016. Kestrel was in 2017 and have made just a few mods along the way (although I have stocked up and have 4 kestrels to make sure they last my hunting career :sunglasses:). Sterling htp probably came in around 2018 after I switched from ultratech because its stiffer. Stepps came in 2017 but I used them with my red squirrel aider that first year, I believe the knaider came in in 2018 and that was one of the most actual game changing things in my system ever. I've been using the hme hooks for my pack basically since I would go mobile in 2013-2014. I had a bow holder I made with a screw in accessory holder and plastidip that I used for a long time with my mathews dxt but when I first picked up a split limb bow I had to start making a new one since it didn't fit anymore. I ran cut down hawk heliums for a couple years. Before that lone wolfs. I loved the new tribe evolution and used that until the kestrel came out. Before that I used a trophyline ambush for probably 5 or 6 years and the neoprene model for a couple years until I could get my hands on a medium ambush saddle. Along the way I tried pretty much everything until the saddle boom. I've tried a few of the newer saddles but I don't like anything as good as my kestrel. Once in a while I will try sticks again before I convince myself that I still hate them. I've been using the mystery ranch popup 28 since it came out, that was another big game changer for me for carrying my stepps, it's like they're not even there. Anyways that was quite a trip down memory lane, thanks @onestringer! :) I was remensincing about my bucks the other day but now I'm thinking about the saddles and gear I used to kill them and how they've evolved. And that reminds me, I can't forget to mention that I hunted a lot off preset trees with screw in steps. I'm much more of a nomad now but its still nice to go hit one of those trees up once in a while.

That post got long quick!

I use HTP as my tether also. I’m a fan.

Great morning in the woods. Sat until 1. Saw 2 bucks, a turkey and an eagle. The bucks were a y and an 8. The wasn’t very big, the next size up from a basket 8 whatever that is. If he were to walk by at the end of the rut with an empty tag I’d shoot him though.

I'll be able to sit at least 6 or seven times this coming week. Should be able to put SOME!!! points on the board. Those 4 or 5 spikes and the doe I gave a haircut to are looking better & better every day. I'm gonna sit in the morning where I sat last season on a funnel where I had a 5 point push a doe past at 25 yards. Passed them last year but they might not be so lucky this year. My trigger finger is gettin itchy.

November is here! Best month of the year and it aint close.

Super busy last week only got out two mornings and passed another doe cause she had a fawn.

In a tree now then have meetings all day tomorrow otherwise my schedule is clear through the end of archery. Really settling into this being my own boss deal. Have a cabin rented tomorrow through the 14th. This next 3 weeks I look forward to year round and it always flies by so fast. Just try to slow down and enjoy.

Bait. A little one bedded 30 yards upwind. Perfect. And mama is walking around feeding 50 yards away

Live from the saddle 2021

You guys can share in my misery.

I saw 5 more does and had another shooter follow a doe in to 40 yards and then just stand there for 45 minutes before dark. I stayed a little after and crept out of there and nothing ever busted. Great day in the woods. Amazing how the 5 minutes I wasn't in a tree between 9:30 and dark was the only time I had a deer in range and a shooter at that. My dad said, "now that's just bad luck" lol.
