Thanks for the encouraging words!
Been putting in some hours of in season scouting /hunting on a transition from hardwoods to a conglomeration of ridges with cedars/ honey locust/ briars. Really hard to climb any trees in there. The buck sign is always consistent but it's really thick.
I got drawn for a rifle quota hunt and knew not the average sane person would go there (or at least as deep as I was. Got up early. The wind was in my favor, crept in early and stumbled into 3 tiny hickory nut trees out on one of the points. At height the tree trunk was smaller than my thigh.
As I got set up at the top I heard a deer stand up out of a bed off to the right. A few minutes later I was talking pictures of the sunrise I heard steps and the deer emerged from the trees at my 2 o'clock at about 30 yards and walked right in front of the last group of hickorys. I shot him at about 10 yards and he dropped right there.
The drag was awful (and couldn't get truck anywhere close) but after getting that deer in the truck I had an exhausted smile on my face. Next time I'm getting a frame pack and quartering.
The only thing that could have topped this was if the weapon was a bow, but I am thrilled to harvest this buck. Thanks to everyone on here and a few folks on YouTube. I appreciate you all.
