Team #7

I am going to miss this coming weekend due to the work conference but will back in the woods next Wed thru Saturday while I am over there. Time to get serious about shootin some bucks for a while. Got my private land herd thinning duties out of the way.

I'm going to climb a tree here in a couple hours. Taking a buddy and gonna try to put him on a doe, if one comes by I'll try to shoot it, he said he would take it, but hopefully can get him a shot.

Well, not the best weather forecast here but I'll be out of it's not pooring. At least it'll be easy to be quiet. Wind is supposed to flip 180 tomorrow, it's been steady west. Not sure how much difference an east wind will make. I do have one spot I might be able to capitalize on east wind , it's really pretty rare here

I love hunting on an east wind.

I love hunting on an east wind.
What's your normal? Ours is typically west, pretty sure it's from Lake Michigan lol

Is there any reason you like an east wind? I can pretty much pick which side I come in from, convince or feasibility are the real factor. I'm all ears for suggestions guys, I need all the help I can get

Predominant wind is south west and we git a good bit of north wind with fronts. I like east for a couple reasons. First my buddy's farm has several really good spots for east or east variant winds. Second, on public ground, east wind seems to coincide with the day after a high pressure system is passing or has just passed just to our north and the deer are on their feet.

I've almost asked about the barometer before, it looks like tomorrow night through Friday morning is on the rise followed by a bigger than usual dip. Is the best, or better at least , time for movement at the crest/valleys? So that's the time to make a point to be out? I feel like bossman is going to be a major (pick your expletive) and not let me take Friday off but hey, maybe I got sick from hunting in the rain for a week solid :tearsofjoy:

Any change will affect deer movement, high pressure and high temps tend to suppress movement in my experience. Big drops in temp and barometer, especially this time of year should trigger a heavy feed drive.
I like East winds because its different than the usually westerly winds we have. there's a few spots that set up better for an east wind on our farm and deer move in different patterns which I think makes them a little more vulnerable traveling in a way they normally wouldn't, they do tend to be a little edgier though.

I like the barometer above 30 and 30.1 or higher is even better. It's not that you cant kill on days when the pressure is lower it just seems daytime movement is suppressed. Opinions vary widely on moon phase, moon position and different aspects of weather. My thought is to try to use all available information and hunt every time I can hunt. For example, opening day here we had so so moon phase and positions and it was 90 degrees, I hunted really close to bedding and still didnt see a deer. This past Saturday we had a 20+ degree temp drop and a great overhead moon for strong morning movement and good evening movement. I killed 2 and saw 14 from the tree. Same farm.

I look at it like this, deer are wired to move at dawn and dusk, they are also wired to move, imo, based on moon position. Weather conditions like high temps, high winds and low barometric pressure can and will suppress daytime movement. Suppress not stop. The more we can stack favorable condition components the stronger the deer movement seems to be. But deer are going to move everyday, period, out side of maybe an extreme winter weather event. The question becomes are we putting ourselves in the right spot to take advantage of the conditions for the day. If all indications are it may not be a stellar movement day, then we would likely do ourselves a favor by hunting as close to bedding as possible. If conditions point to a strong movement day, does it make sense to risk pushing in tight or do we maybe look to take advantage of travel routes or food sources. Buck movement specifically is going to be on a gradual increase as the peak breeding period approaches. The closer it gets the more hormones overrides normal movement patterns with the exception of high temps. High temps again imo, will suppress that movement and most of it will happen in the dark but they are going to breed when it's time for them to breed.

If I had to/got to pick, I'd pick the peaks. The higher the better. But it's all relative and I don't get to pick so I just hunt when I can near where the deer should be and it usually works out ;)

I've got my barometer backwards, I'm usually looking at temperature and wind direction and the family calendar to decide when I can hunt and then where to sit lol

Ok well 3 votes for high pressure. I guess if I'm going to be lazy it should be Saturday morning. It does top 30.1 Sunday so I should probably get my back all ready for an all day adventure. Maybe I'll finally try the mission lol

If possible, I'd be in the woods as soon as that rain stops. Also, keep in mind, the later the season goes the more the pressure will be consistently above 30 and so the less that specific number will be helpful. You'll need/want it to be higher hence my comment above about it being relative.

Yep, I should have mentioned that.
