Team #7

Sounds like it may be time to relocate. Too much human activity for my taste.
For sure! I made the drive to hunt that spot based on the wind so I just tried to make the best of it. It does explain why the rub line nearby isn't back this year. Same wind today, if it's not too rainy I might give it another try elsewhere tonight

Way too much peopling. I say as your teammate, save some gas money and head for the boonies where you can actually enjoy the process.

I did those days a little when I lived in the city. It's rough. The public and easy access stuff is insane. Want to hunt after work, the drive time constrains you. Really have to work at begging for permission to access anything decent.
Yeah, it definitely can be discouraging. I was considering heading north to another spot but I've never found any decent sign and I know there's tons of pressure there near my access. Unfortunately my private access down south in much better hunting area has pretty much fell apart.

On the bright side of I can figure out ways to get it done with all that competition everywhere I'll be a better hunter . If I don't put to much pressure on myself I still enjoy the process. Marathon not a sprint

You just gotta buck up and whoop them fella's for moving in on ya.

I've got some spots that I'm currently dealing with people moving in, but I ain't going no where

Haha, unless I'm on camera they don't know I was there

He should leave a note on a tree there that says...I am Bear Claw Chris Lapp, YOU are molesting my hunt.

Will post pics to submission and story later.....right now.....gotta drag!!!

That's a pretty buck @jhunter13 , looking forward to reading about it tomorrow. Weather conditions are going to be perfect for MO youth season this weekend and my 6 decided Tuesday he wanted to try and shoot a deer with a gun this year. So leaving work to go try and get him prepped and confident in his abilities. Prayers and good vibes are appreciated, I would hate to have to tell him he cant go

Well I learned two things tonight. My .22 needs a smaller stock for my son to be able to shoot it. And a .243 is more recoil than he is ready for. My daughter still wants to shoot one with the crossbow this weekend so hopefully we can get something close enough this time

Had a spike pass under me at 7:20. Then nothing till 9:20. This guy was 60 yds to my right on the other side of a huge fallen tree heading away. I flipped the bleat can and hit the grunt tube a few times and he went to the end of the blow down and turned 180 and headed straight towards me.

He came straight towards me slighlty angled. I wouldn't have had any shots if he got past my tree so once he got to 15 yards I launched an arrow.

Arrow looked good.

Ray Charles could have followed the blood trail. So I began tracking him. I didnt know it at the time, but I jumped him 60 yds from the impact spot. I got about 100 yds from where I hit him and decided to go back for my pack (I left it at the tree because I thought he was dead, 50 yds away). As I went back to my pack I realized I bumped him while tracking and missed where he bed down. I waited another 20 minutes before looking again.

I tracked him to 230 yards from impact. Blood was great. Literally just walking without much effort to find it. I came to a power line and saw him. He was bedded down, head up. I nocked an arrow, and tried to move closer for a shot. Well, he saw me before I had a shot. He jumped up and tried to run. He crashed, got up and ran 10 yds and stumbled, then ran 60 yards where I lost sight of him. At this point its 1020. Almost 50 minutes since I shot him. So i backed out and went to my truck.

During this time I talked to @sojourner who offered to come assist and was texting with @Gator for advice. The consenses was he was either dead or Id need to put another shot on him. At 1200 I went out back out. This was the last spot I saw him.

Then 5 yds later I had this where he stumpled

I then tracked him pin drop by pin drop 60 yds across the power lines.

Heres what I was dealing with

Took me at least 45 minutes. Mind you it was 45 degrees when the sun came up and now its over 70, but it felt like 90. Once I got acroas the power lines and back into woods the blood trail was much easier to follow.

After a few yds in the woods I looked up and he was dead, 20 yds ahead.

He most likey crashed and died after I bumped him the second time.

The shot went in here.

And came out center of the brisket

I single lunged him.

Long day, but a great day as well.

It's amazing how tough these critters are I wouldn't have expected him to be very far with that blood trail, much less alive and able to run off. Way to stick with it and get advice when needed. Congrats

I saved the track in Onx. He went over 300 yds. I wouldnt have believed it if I hadnt seen it myself.

Good luck, to both of you. Let us know how he does!!

Well my morning was a cluster. Went out this afternoon and buggered that one up too but I did have deer in range. Longer post about that in live from the saddle.

Some success using the bleat can. What's the comparable idiot proof buck call? Blocks in a bag you rub thing?
