Team #7

It’s been a minute since I’ve been on here. I’ll have to go back several pages to see what everyone has been up to. This season has been the wildest roller coaster ride. I had the flu and wasn’t able to hunt most of the days I had planned for hunting. Weird scenarios keep happening on the hunts this year, it’s almost embarrassing.

Anyways.. I went out early afternoon yesterday in a newer spot. It’s rolling hills going down to a creek. I had glassed from above a few days prior while on a hunt and saw a wide 8 pointer come from the bottom. I figured I could get a little closer to see exactly where he’s coming from. Made my way down the hill through a finger of woods and ended up spooking him. A decent 10 pointer came up through the creek and gave me a broadside shot just under 40 yards. I took the shot, it looked and sounded good but I realized there was just a little brush in the way. I never found the deer or arrow. Ended up finding a tree by the creek to set up on. Halfway up the climb, a buck came through chasing a doe. I finished the climb and they circled back around and he gave me a shot opportunity 30 yards across the creek. He jumped off the embankment breaking a back leg and died after running about 50 yards. Lots of highs and lows on this hunt, but it was a lot of funIMG_3107.jpeg

I thought boyne might have been on rutcation.

Excellent work y'all! Hoping to put another another one down for us tomorrow

got four days of rifle season left here in MO and my cousin finally saw some hard chasing last night. He's been out every day this week and hasn't seen anything up til now. Hopefully I can get in on that action tomorrow or Sunday

The coaster continues. I drew a tag for a county I didn’t originally want but figured I’d give it a try. There’s only two properties in the county that are public and open to gun hunting. It’s a river bottom that floods. I scouted it years ago and there was hardly any vegetation due to flooding. Walking in I was seeing a lot of does and great buck sign. Made it about 3/4 of a mile in to some thick nasty stuff. It was a transition area between swamp and water. I could see deer moving around in the swamp so I sat down on a log to see if I wanted to keep going or turn around and go back to where I saw sign. Within 5 minutes this guy came in under 20 yards. I stood up to get a better shot and he darted right as I pulled the trigger. Someone shot his antler off but I won’t say who because I don’t want to embarrass myself. It was enough to knock him down and make him lose his balance. He stood back up and I shot again right behind the shoulder. I instantly regretted shooting because he looked kinda small for the distance I was out there. When I got up closer I noticed he only had one side. I looked where I shot and found the other side. So I’m holding the other antler up to him in the pics. I had to pack him out since it was so thick but man what a da… week

Haha yes. I’m not sure if it would count for the contest since I wasn’t in a tree but I was wearing my saddle. He’s a 10 pointer but his g2 is broken off flush to the main beam on one side. If it counts for the contest, it would get us one more point

If you are tethered in it counts, walking in or out in your saddle doesn't

Well I got all set up about 45 minutes before shooting light this morning. The world's loudest human came in a little later and set up right where I thought the deer would come from. Public, so whatever, make the best of it. I couldn't take it anymore when he started talking on the phone at 8. So breakfast and regroup for this guy lol

I wish there were less roads through the public here. I thought no one else venture in this stuff but there are people everywhere here. It's almost not worth going Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.

Clearing behind me in that picture with some beds in it. A trail or two though there but the rest is thick

If you are willing so is someone else. You just need to find the spots the deer go to avoid them. If you got there easy, your not in the right place

Well I'm kinda at a loss right now... I been hunting this same deer for 4 seasons now on public and have managed to keep him to myself. Well earlier this year I noticed increased pressure, and just kind of blew it off. Yesterday no one in there, slipped in and found a guy 50 yards away, who came in nearly 2 miles from a different access, he told me he knew about that deer.... ok he was there first so I moved areas. On way out I run into a different guy at dark, who came from an even different access just over a mile, and started telling me all about that deer. Apparently a buddy of his has it on cam, and has been telling EVERYBODY in Hope's someone can kill it. I got irritated and left.... now I'm trying to decide if he's worth dealing with the increase in pressure, or cutting my losses and finding a new deer.
