Kinda the same for me the last 2 weekends. I did finally see a mature buck this weekend but he never got inside 50 before turning the wrong direction and going on his way. Been seeing plenty of doe's and young bucks but mature ones have been non-existent. I saw a second buck this weekend that was likely mature but didnt get a good enough look to know for sure. Right side main beam loooked to be 18-20" but no idea on anything else. The one I saw fairly close was a 4-5 y/o 10 point. If the weather cooperates, I will be back on him this weekend. This past weekend movement was really suppressed. All the deer we saw were hardly moving when we did see them. Would take them 10-15 minutes to go 30 yards. Cows were the same way. When they were up and eating, they were hardly moving at all. We blamed it on the pressure being in the 29.80's.

Yeah I wasnt real enthused about hunting with the pressure that low, but I'm gonna hunt when I can. Hopefully the pressure will get up to around 30-30.1 when I can go this weekend. I had a new mature buck on camera last night, so they're moving some.
 
I'm still grinding, holiday schedule is going to hamper my efforts for the next couple weeks it looks like:unamused:
 
Hoping to be out this weekend. Really struggled last December but I'm having a lot more encounters this year so don't count me out yet haha
 
So teammates, is Intel from 11-5 of this year worth another look? That's about prime rut here, maybe a day or two early. Most things say the 7-9th of November for peak rutting. Trying to get a plan around for some more points ...

What exact intel? Where are you located? I'd say right now you need to think most about food

West Michigan, about halfway up the lower peninsula. I seen a good buck there at that time ( 11 4&5) this would be near bedding I'd say/guess. There may be some red oaks there, mixed hardwoods and pine. Generally pretty wet area but I wouldn't say swampy or anything but there are pockets or swamp/ marsh stuff
 
I think food and cover/bedding intel is key right now. But I wouldn't discount the possibility of secondary rutting kicking off as well. How secluded is this bedding area? did the gun hunters push through it? May be worth watching, may be a waste land, rifle season(s) makes things change in ways that are hard to predict

not trying to be smart but it's not super secluded. It does offer year round cover, probably food since there's wet areas and sight/ wind advantages in certain conditions at least. That's why I think bedding. I don't know if this is a core area for him or he was just passing through for the rut. I could go run through there one night but I think it might be worth a morning hang and hope over disturbing the area

Hang and hope and then scout your way out, you may get lucky if he's there. If he's not there you can add to your knowledge base about how deer use the area in different stages of the season.

Yup, agree with this. I love hunting mornings and then scouting after. Give yourself a chance and then learn a bunch
