It sure was. The only improvement would have been getting the doe with a bow instead of the gun. But i am happy.Congrats, brother! Sounds like a great season!

Awesome job Ken,good luck with your new endeavours. You may have ruined some neck meat, which i just really learned to appreciate..I made some pulled venison with it in the dutch oven, deeeelicious.Got another doe today with the muzzleloader. I shot this deer from the same tree that I shot from yesterday. This doe was standing 25 yards from the gut pile when I shot it! It was facing me looking in my direction trying to figure out what I was. I’m glad I was hunting from a saddle. I got around to the back of the tree and hid from her. I shot her in the throat so that I wouldn’t lose any meat. About a 40 yard shot. My muzzleloader is dead on accurate. I think that’ll do it for me for this year. On January 23, I fly off to be a chaplain in the Navy. View attachment 42594View attachment 42595View attachment 42596
I just cut the neck meat of as good as I can,the vertebrae dont help that. Then i cooked it whole in a pulled pork recipe. I just braised it 4 mins each side then put it in a dutch oven uncovered with tomatoes and beer and spices and onions and garlic and cook it at 325 for about 2 hrs uncovered then an hour or so covered. It falls apart at that point and it is done. First time for me,i love it though.I should learn to better appreciate neck meat. Teach me something about it.
That’s aweful oak ridge. Long ride for nothin! Hopefully you can get it done this time! I hunt PA every year. One week early archery and second week of rifle. My NH season ended dec 15th, I drove to PA last Tuesday only to find out there online system was down and I couldn’t get a license. So hopefully this trip works out okay, I have the recurve and muzzleloader. Itching to hunt!

No big deal,at least you got some meat in the freezer. I only got points on one of my harvests this year,no worries. We did ok.Well guys. Season came and went and although there is meat in my freezer, it ended with zero points. My apologies. Here’s a picture from my hang last night. It was a chilly/snowy one. View attachment 43814
