Team 8 Thread

Finally got a sit this weekend. Pretty quiet overall though. I bumped 2 bedded yearlings walking in, and saw a couple turkeys, but that's it. I'm not sure if it was just too warm this weekend, or they're feing the pressure, but I haven't seen this area this quiet in a while. Going to try a new spot this weekend and hope for better luck.

I feel like this year is going to be a grind for me unfortunately.
With my productive areas showing no sign of deer activity and three of my trailcams picking up more 2 legged predators than ever, it has the makings of a long frustrating season. And to top it off I haven't seen a deer in all of my sits! LOL

Getting out tomorrow and will be traveling real light so I can cover ground to find a new honeyhole. Gonna be a saddle, bow and onestick, that's it. I figure if I leave the rest of the necessities at the truck it will all but guarantee I get a shot and have to walk back twice for the retrieval.

At least you're getting to hunt. I've hunted one day out of the ten we've been open. May get out this evening for a scout mission on a property close to the house. There are some absolute studs on the property but it's a tough one to figure out.

I’m up this afternoon. Still can’t find any whites dropping but I have some reds dropping with willows just past me in a pretty narrow funnel. It’s a spot I’ve had marked “to try” for a few years now

Goodluck!

Back home with real internet access. That typing on my phone is a skill this old guy is not going to master, I have enough trouble with a real keyboard. :tearsofjoy:

I had a pretty good long weekend. I saw 15 deer total, all but 4 easily within bow range including 3 bucks still traveling as a bachelor group. It started Friday night with a spike horn walking up and standing within five yards for 10 minutes despite some grouse hunters doing circles around me. Saturday evening I did the mile walk back to a spot I generally reserve for rut but there was a strong west wind and I thought I'd sit adjacent to the bedding area I know is used in those conditions. As I crested the ridge I bumped two does. I setup and within 30 minutes they were back and bedded right back 20-25 yds away. They eventually got up and fed under the cherry trees for about an hour. Twenty minutes after they a doe and two fawns showed up and ate in the same cherry's. At 7:10 I heard a noise off to my left and there was the head of nice ~110 inch 8 point eating cherries under a different tree. A bit of watching revealed there was actually three bucks there. The other was a dark racked buck definitely outside his ears and a smaller buck all feeding there. Unfortunately under the canopy it was too dark to separate the deer to get a clean shot. I had to sit there listening to them crunch cherry pits for 1/2 hour after dark. I finally had to talk to them to get them to leave. It took three times of me asking them to leave before they finally scampered off. The wife was starting to get a little worried that I hadn't texted her yet when I finally was able to.

I got skunked again last night but while leaving I drove by the other location where those two bucks were before someone else got in there. The split G2 buck was standing right on the side of the road. He has an awesome bedding location that makes him very tough to hunt. If I can get in there this afternoon I'm going to give him a shot. He has a very narrow funnel to get out on either end or he crosses the marsh if he really feels threatened. Yesterday we had a NW wind and he came out the N side and around. We are supposed to have a SE wind today which would make it very easy to hunt the N side funnel (which I will do if I can) but my fear is he will just go out the S end with the wind in his face. My one hope is that other guy has been hunting the S side hard which I'm hoping will get him to still go out the N even with the wind at his back. What do y'all think?

Woke up to some rain today....finally. checked the radar and saw another good shower on its way. Hustled down to my property and re seeded all my food plots. Could use another inch or two of rain but it's a start.

No luck today. Chilly morning that warmed up to almost 70*. Nice day to be outdoors but not the right weather for deer to be on their feet.
I'm back to work on Thursday so tomorrow's my last day to get out and make it happen.

??? There's got to be a story around that! :tearsofjoy:
I was in a very small block of woods, the type that gets overlooked. Y'all already know there were two big mature bucks in there and I saw one of them just after shooting light the evening before when I came down from another area so I figured it was worth trying. I knew they wouldn't move until last light and at sundown this loud ass firetruck pulls up and firemen jump out and are doing something but very loudly (no clue what they were actually doing as I could barely catch glimpses of them through binocs). Stayed for about 20 mins and then packed up and left but at that point I was losing enough light to shoot.

Well the camper is all packed for weekend 3. The weather is supposed to be cold and wet all weekend so I have high hopes for some early season success. I think I've killed more bucks in crappy weather than during the nice days so I have some incentive to get out of bed in the morning when the rain is hitting the roof of the camper. :tearsofjoy:

Go get em! I’m jealous…

I’m pulling together December plans… and maybe some late November ones

The "shooter" bucks I saw last weekend were still in a bachelor group. That's not normal for around here. It does explain a bit as to why my buck sightings have been somewhat light so far. Hopefully they break up and spread out, I'm ready to start seeing some chasing!

Sat for a few hours before work today. Bunch of squirrels and a raccoon for my effort. My anniversary is Saturday, so not sure I’ll make it out that morning. For sure I’ll be out in Sunday though!
