2.does came in and feed around on the acorns....after 10minutes of milling around just out of range the bigger 1 stepped inside my 30yd tree...25-28 yd shot. Double lung and didn't go 20. According to the smart phone .85 mile drag out...I'm pretty beat. 110 pound doe is pretty big for our area

Okay gang, yesterday was a bust. The only thing I saw was a spike while walking back to my truck. He just stood there and watched me pass by at 15-20 yards. I thought for a second about nocking an arrow but I’m not wasting my buck tag on a 5” spike so I continued on. Today I have the choice between 1/2 day morning or night. At 3:15 am I was not feeling it so evening it is. Going to try a different WMA that I haven’t scouted this year but I saw great sign during spring turkey. It’s on the edge of a corn field which is something new for me. I’m a big woods hunter but let’s try this crop stuff.

Thanks..... Much appreciated.

Would have been funny to see a video of me...had to transfer the bow from strong side 10-11 o'clock over the bridge to weak side 1-2 o'clock like 10 times....up and over, wait...now this side, other side, over and over.

So I passed on a doe so small I could have packed her out in my fanny pack because it was getting close to prime time and I knew more would come out. Usually I don’t start packing up till it’s black but as it got gray I started thinking that a deer would have to briskly walk up to my tree and stop for me to get it done. Took my gear strap off and put my quiver on my bow. Took my arrow off and bam! Big buck comes in quick and stops to smell my footprints. Quickly grabbed my bow and nocked an arrow so fast that the nock lit me up like a Christmas tree. I pulled the arrow and put the nock in my mouth and pulled it off and put the arrow in the quiver and pulled a new one but by the time I was ready he was at 30 and I could barely see him. He was heading towards a cornfield 100 yards away and I’m hoping that’s his regular routine since he was moving quickly without meandering around like they often do. Hopefully he will come again tomorrow. Looked like a big 8. What to you guys think?

If you don't think you spooked him off, there's no reason to think he won't repeat his routine tomorrow. Generally speaking, they do the same thing because it kept them alive yesterday.

I gotta say, I do believe in scentlok! He smelled where I walked but he never smelled me. He casually continued on after smelling my prints. I think I’m going to sleep in and try again tomorrow night. Hopefully he gets up a tad earlier too lol.

Here's where the mind games come in. If it were me, I'd take the exact same path in so if he smells it again, it's the same as yesterday and yesterday was safe. Other will say take a different path so he doesn't wind you again.

It'll drive you nuts and it's all still a game of chance.

Observation from last night's encounter....those 2 does were inside of 50yds with me for a while....a deer downwind of me maybe 75-100yds, guesstimate, was blowing over and over for a while and those doe never raised an ear or reacted at all. Some wise old buck maybe act different but for just general deer behavior I'm being to think more and more that other deer blowing a little ways off doesn't ruin ur chances like u would think

My next hunt is in 2 weeks.

They're finally harvesting the soybean but the corn has another 2 weeks before that can be harvested. As long as the corn remains, my chances are low in my area. Once they start harvesting corn, the deer will push back in my direction and their normal patterns.

Problem I have is after 2 weeks, work make not allow me to hunt until mid-November which is post-rut, cold and possibly snowy. Still have my hopes but I may get skunked this year.
