Team Johnny 5 is alive!

dam fellas we dropped to 5th place, anyone got a hunt planned to get us back on top? I will be out today, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings after work. Got a major cold front here in TN gonna try to see if I can catch a buck moving early in these cool temps. I now have 2 scrape cameras getting fairly consistent activity finally!

I should be good for 5 points here if I can get out again. Was passing does hoping for an buck earlier but I'm going to go on a doe mission shortly. It's cooled off some here lately. That makes everything after the kill a lot more enjoyable in my opinion

I just had a crazy busy weekend, of coarse the weather was great for some hunting. I will have this weekend open, weather looks too be warning up (not good) and for some reason my private has just kinda dried up?? Enough of me whining, I just need to get it done! Thanks for the encouragement!

Couldn't agree more. Nothin fun about gutting a deer with 1000 black flies all over it.

I hear you. It seems like every time I am locked into some plans, the mother of all cold fronts comes through with the perfect wind and high pressure and my cameras light up like crazy and im stuck at work or at home. That used to really get me in a foul mood, but l last couple of years ive been learning to let is go and still pay attention to the important things. Now I just hunt when I can hunt and enjoy every minute of it. Hang in you'll get that opportunity!

I filled both doe tags and waiting on a good one but I don't think I can catch us up unless he's a thirty pointer...Resized_20220914_185321_8124.jpegResized_20220914_185321_8124.jpegResized_20220914_185321_8124.jpeg

I put in one sit on this cold front to see if big boy would show up. No go. And also after 2 solid seasons of one sticking, tonight was the night where my repel rope finally got stuck. Had to do the climb of shame. Took FOREVER! But live to fight another day. Anyone having better luck?

I have had at least one sit per day since Monday. We’ve had some marginal conditions for hunting buck bedding / destinations this week. I’m looking forward to hunting funnels next week. What I really need are some windy / rainy days so I can do some extended scouting ventures.

I have Saturday planned out for all day hunting. But the temp is going to be 15* above average. So... Might hunt private in the morning, then check out new spot for early afternoon to sit the evening. Been a slow start for me this season. Still enjoying the sits, love watching the sun rise over the tree line!!!

I have to rethink plans. This was my go to tree for years. Completely dead, I get a few turkeys, which is fun. But no deer! I walked surrounding fields and saw movement but there is allot of solar farm construction around area! I don't know, I have a public spot near. Going to hold tight for another hour or so here. Eat lunch, little work around house and head out to public. It warned up this weekend also, which I'm a bit bummed about. I will say I have a understanding wife, so allot of hunting still to come. Plus I was drawn for a state reduction hunt November 14-15. Gun only, but I'll take it!!! Good luck team!

Im always on the fence between hunting a "go-to" spot cuz its been historically good vs. scouting for the freshest sign and hunting on it. I always end up doing some of both. It usually depends on how much time I have that day. Good luck tonight on your public hunt.

Made my second sit of the season this evening. Saw seven does and fawns yesterday morning. Sat this evening and saw four bucks three one and a half year olds and the 2.5 I shot. One of the smaller bucks had what appeared as one horn. There was a second just kind of hanging off the side of his head. I have a pup I’m training to trail deer. Never got much of a look at the buck ther than seeing he was substantially larger than the other three. He offered a slight quartering to and I took it hoping for a 100-150 yard track to work the pup on. He ran about 120 and died five yards from my tree. I felt silly walking a big circle to where I shot the buck just so the dog could trail it to a spot 30 yards from where I unloaded her. Wasn’t the buck I hoped it was but I was blessed with a great evening in the woods.

Congrats man! Hilarious you're the only one hoping for a long track and you didn't get it!
