I committed to a weekend trip months ago knowing it was falling during the rut. But now we are getting a 30 degree massive temp drop on Saturday and I am miserable that im missing this weekend. ill be out there on Monday when I get back, but I can't help but feel like im missing out. Hope yall are able to take advantage this weekend!

In the same boat. Took off next Monday and Friday though.

It is raining its butt off here in VA. I am hoping to get out tomorrow AM before work. I have Monday-Thursday off this week. I am thinking about hiking deep into this property where I got permission right before season and camping out for a night or two. I'm getting anxious to close the deal before gun season opens the 19th.

That same rain washed me out of the woods today. Which is too bad because after a long and slow start the deer woods are finally on fire. I’ve had a bunch of close calls. A buck I’ve hunted for a few years busted me as I entered the woods this morning.

I actually hunted tonight. That was the 4th hunt of the year! I shot my buck sept 18th… Nearly two months without hunting. It is painful to shoot a buck early.

This guy showed up last week and he’s the biggest we have seen since we moved here 3 seasons ago. Forgive my suboptimal eBay cameras.

Unfortunately, this guy wasn't from my saddle! I hung a preset lock-on in my "secret spot" rut spot, and hunted it Tuesday night in my saddle, but all the deer, including 2 nice bucks were on my weak side. So Wednesday morning I went in with my safety harness and hunted it "traditionally" so my previous "weak side" was now my strong side. First light I had several different bucks chasing does all around me, but I chose to pass on them. Just before 9 I saw a doe coming in from the opposite ridge in front of me, being chased by a much larger buck. She brought him right in to 15 yards,
I got to full draw and grunted, but he was focused and wouldn't stop, so just before he got into the thick stuff, I let one go. Hit him a little back, but thought it was a good hit. The blood was good, but since I thought it was a liver hit, I decided to back out and wait. After 6 (tough) hours, I went back in to track. I found 4 places over 150 yards, where he bedded down, but no blood after the last bed, and that was in the base of a bowl. The next day I searched for another 6 hours, but with no direction to go on from that last bed and every direction was uphill, I had no real clue where to look. The following morning I set out once again to search and noticed the loud crows/ravens so headed in that direction. When I got near, I saw a buzzard fly up from a field and there he was. I was/am a little upset that the buzzards got to him and I was not able to find him in time to save the meat, but very happy to have found him at all. The shot was only an inch or so back, but the bile blocked a lot of the blood from coming out.

Congrats on a stud there. Glad you found him.

I had 3 does under my tree tonight for
The last 30 minutes of light. And of
Course at the last second a monster buck I’ve been studying came in and I couldn’t see well enough to loose an arrow. When I let down they all heard me and bounced. I’m trying to decide if I’m crazy to go back to the same spot tomorrow. I found a rare target feeding area that’s drawing in the deer, which is rare around here. We’ve got snow forecast for tomorrow night so the deer are likely to feed a lot tomorrow. I’m just doubtful the big boy will step out again. He’s old and wise.

Had a big day today. First archery kill (5 seasons in). First kill out of the saddle. First deer in 9 years! Biggest deer I've killed.

Celebrated with a mile drag out followed by some scotch. That should be another 13 points for us! Happy November all!

I debate this all the time. Only you know the deer in your area. But in my area (decently pressured public land in Tennessee) I'd go back in after him. If there is something the does want they will be back. And if he wants the does, he will be back. Just my 2 cents! GL!

Yeah I’m gonna sneak back in there at first light and see if I can get up a different tree In the same region. It’s seriously cold this am (18) and is gonna jump back to 32 mid morning. With a snow event coming tonight I’m hoping for a mid day feeding. Thanks for the encouragement!
