Tethrd One Climbing Sticks

I was the first one to question that "chemical weld" on page 4 of this thread. Not something I'm trusting my life to. There is light and then there is ridiculous.
The pin holding is relevant too. Yes, this failure should never happen - but it looks like the likely consequence would not be immediately catastrophic. Over time I'd imagine the pin would wear, but for short-term it looks like it would get you down safe.

"Eventually" or "on first use"? Came across some videos of one-sticks with broken bonds and wobbly steps supported by only that hollow pin that people were getting sketched out over.

However...the videos were posted by people affiliated with catalyst. So there's a certain amount of smell-test there...

Is this a thing? I've mostly been ignoring sticks and haven't really been paying attention, but seeing those videos of failed sticks had me thinking back to this discussion.

Affiliated how? I think that group of dudes provides feedback on several products in the industry from different makers.

I am not affiliated with catalyst. If you watch the video you will see a mini beast stick on the ground which I think is the gold standard as far sticks are concerned. I was going to compare the two but didn’t even get that far.

These sticks are definitely getting mixed reviews. They are taking a beating on an AT thread currently.

The foot space on the tree kept me from ordering.

Can someone trace the step/stand-off shape and make a sketch with external dimensions?

it would be easy and cheap to make a wood replica of it, screw on top of a chunk of 4x4 post, and strap to a tree to see how the stand off matches up with your foot size and dexterity.

it doesn’t exactly give a good comparison for the bottom step, but I suspect it would go a long way to figuring it out before stroking the check for a set.

You know what, at least it’s March, imagine having that junk break the middle of November when your just getting dialed in for a long season, I know you try a ton of stuff and now is a good time to do it, thanks for posting that video, I don’t blame you one bit for being frustrated.

All I'm saying is that your name is on their page. I figured that's worth noting. I also figure you weren't expecting a POS.

I'd like to clear this up. None of us are "affiliated" with catalyst. The only affiliation any of us have is myself with out on a limb. I can assure your catalyst doesn't even have a stick competing at this point as far as I know. The guys from catalyst come to us with questions about a one stick they were building. I got to test it. It's now back at catalyst headquarters. Zero money. Zero affiliation. But i've given input to a lot of different products on the market. I was the one who modified a perch to create a gen 2. The solo scout was a idea of mine. I've given feedback to tx5 on many occasions. Trophyline. Genesis 3d and a few others. That doesn't mean I'm profiting or benefitting. A lot of times I jtppt get a opportunity to try something early. Never held or used any other product from catalyst. And I know that none of the others mentioned are affiliated either. We are just friends with one another and have seen the crap that was pulled against us

Enkriss is the only dude I know of whose had more sticks than me lol so I trust his word. First impressions is mixed. They are truly lightweight. It's impressive. The stacking isn't as fiddly as I would have thought. Got it down pretty quick. Ill need to think of something or look to others ideas for rope management. I actually find the dynaloc button annoying. I think it's kinda fiddly, and doesn't get as tight to the tree as amsteel does, but it does the job. Step distance sucks, but what's more annoying than that is the end that flares up. Even through my stiff kenetrek boots I can feel the pressure. Side by side it doesn't look like a huge difference, but the beast feels so much roomier. And the beast probably bites twice as good.
I still appreciate them for the lightness. I probably use these 20 precent of the season for my longest distance stand locations. But after what happened to enkriss I can't help but feel it's just a matter of when, not if, the glue breaks. Bummer. IMG_20210316_182029_resize_11.jpgIMG_20210316_182037_resize_18.jpg

@Creighton posted this somewhere.

is this the exact dimensions of the tethrd stick?

or is it something else?

dimensions being listed and identical would be key here, as .125” here or there apparently makes all the difference in the world for these purposes

Im not saying these guys are guilty of trying to give the tethrd one sticks a bad wrap or cause it to brake, but if you’re name is on their website because you helped the with the design of the ION , you are affiliated. This doesn’t mean you are trying to destroy other companies if you name is on here, but to say “you aren’t affiliated” is not a true statement...5A1C6DFB-ACF2-4C37-842B-1C06E8CC15E6.png

Please don’t take my post the wrong way...I’m not accusing anyone of anything in this post accept saying some are affiliated with the ION being designed...

I dont believe it is to scale, this would need to be uploaded to AutoCAD or equivalent, at which point the .125 increments would come into play. Assuming 1" tubing in the center- one could scale to size.
I dropped that engineering class at wvu. I was much better at consuming malt beverages for time.

Wrong. Affiliated means in an official or subordinate capacity. They gave input to a design.
