Tethrd Predator Platform Manufacturing Concerns

Well said. I never had any doubts that if something happend to my Gen 1 that Tethrd would take care of it. Tethrd is a standup company and I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of Tethrd products. Thanks for setting the record straight.

I hate even replying to this thread, since I know somebody is just going to skew my words but here's the deal. The 2x spec is an astm standard. It's not the law.

I know for a fact that there are some other manufacturers out there that you guys all trust who haven't even gone through any third party testing. Based on the media I've seen, provided by both the suppliers and the customers, I don't know if they would pass if they did.

We did the testing at that time for our own knowledge, not because we were looking for a TMA certification. We felt comfortable that a 1.95 factor of safety was safe compared to a 2.0. If you paid attention, none of the "failures" happened because of a person standing on the platform. The failure of the rear corner was occurring during installation. It's annoying no doubt, but not a safety concern.

A lot of people like the gen 1 platform. I get requests for it all the time. And if you are careful during installation, it doesn't break. I also offer lifetime replacement on any platform that does break.

We didn't upgrade to a gen 2 because we thought it was unsafe or we were worried about the load rating. You are mistaken on that point.

We upgraded because we wanted it to be bullet proof. Good enough wasn't good enough for me. I wanted you to be able to toe hook it without concern even though the users manual says not to. Since I was paying to upgrade the rear portion of the mold, it made sense to upgrade the front portion as well. That is why the entire thing is stronger.

Ernie,
Thank you for taking the time to respond. It’s nice to hear from the source on such things.

I have a gen 1 AND a gen 2. So far no problems with either. I'm waiting on the gen 3. The one that sets itself up in the tree.

Hope I didn't just jinx myself.

With all the talk about Gen 1 predators, I am still regretting not getting one. My Gen 2 is awesome, but I’m a small boy and would love an even lighter one!!!

I still use a Gen 1. I love it. I've bought 2 or 3 of them from guys that wanted Gen 2s. If you're a toe-hook guy, I wouldn't recommend the G1...even though it probably won't break.

The guys that have to toe-hook it just don't know how to set it properly. They probably don't know how to saddle hunt either. They probably use t*** s***** too.

Lololol relax! I'm just jonesing the Gen 2 guys.

Raising hell ????? Sounds like a great solution. Geez!!!!!!

Sounds like a song by trooper

I have a Gen 1 and treat it gently because I am afraid of breaking it. I have used it for a season but I am still not confident in its structure because of its problems and even in its how to cam over details
It is a good platform. However if it has to be treated with gentleness it should be replaced. I am with some of the other comments in that regard

No issues with my gen 1 either. And I’m not gentle nor rough with mine. I treat it like all of my other equipment which is to say I try and use it responsibly. I simply follow the instructions that are given... which includes no toe-hooking :)

No issues with mine either. If it does break I am tethered to the tree and I tether in before I step on the platform. If it breaks I call Tethrd and they will take care of it.
