What a great thread. Very informative. You guys are awesome!
Sawyer will later up to 6 weeks or 6 washings. I spray my clothes every 6 weeks . Sawyer doesn't last year to year. That's what I do anyway and it works great on ticks.Does this last from year to year? I have a bottle from last year. Shelf life?
Am I the lone voice crying out in the wilderness, gamehide.com?
I have no affiliation with them, but geez, their products are effective!!
If you buy the 10% concentrated stuff (Martin’s, for example), you need to dilute it substantially to get into the appropriate range of 0.5%, plus or minus a little. If you mix 1 oz. of 10% permethrin and 19 oz. of water, that yields a solution that’s right at 0.5%. Add a touch more permethrin to get a higher concentration; add more water to have a lower concentration. Easiest way to do it is to pour 1 to 1.25 oz. of the concentrated permethrin (comes with a little measuring cap) into whatever spray bottle you plan to use. Add 18 to 19 oz. of water. Seal it up tight, shake (or stir), and you’re all set.I'm tired of giving Sawyer so much $ .....anybody want to give some step by step instructions on mixing the concentrate to the correct dilution for treating clothes?
I use the same concentrate and have it figured out to be 6oz per gallon. I mix mine up in a gallon milk jug so it’s real easy. Plenty enough for an entire season. If you buy the 10% concentrated stuff (Martin’s, for example), you need to dilute it substantially to get into the appropriate range of 0.5%, plus or minus a little. You're 64 oz. short of a full gallon....You might want to consider dialing your concentration way back, since 6 oz. of 10% permethrin mixed with 58 oz. of water (yielding a total of 64 oz (1 gallon)) would give you a 0.938% concentration of permethrin, which is nearly double the industry standard of 0.50-0.52%. Even if you want to make a "heavy" dose, I would use no more than 4 oz. of 10% permethrin mixed with 60 oz. of water, which would get you a 0.625% permethrin solution.
Oooops! Good catch. What a dummy! You're 64 oz. short of a full gallon....
Thought I'd bring this thread up again for the guys headed out to the woods for the spring.
We had one on one of our dogs about a month ago which is the earliest I've ever seen 'em. It was a nice day out but there was still snow on the ground.had a tick on me today. hadn't sprayed down yet. But will before I get back out.
I started using this stuff last year for the first time because of this thread and let me tell you it works, I got permission to hunt a lucrative piece of ground late last season because the owner got lyme and wants deer dead, that area has a nasty tick problem so I sprayed up hard and had zero issues, they seem to get worse here every year.Just sprayed my turkey and scouting gear down last week. Will be the first time I’ve ever used it, looking forward to great results/fewer tick bites.
