"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

what pouch is on your belt?

Thanks …. And another $70 is on my list of accoutrements

Thanks …. And another $70 is on my list of accoutrements

It's funny, I couldn't remember the brand but, I knew that I bought them off of @bowhunthard88 so I went back to the classifieds to do a search. I knew that @bowhunthard88 sells a good bit of gear so to narrow things down I searched for "pouches" and "bowhunthard".

I still had to weed through MULITPLE threads of pouches......I apologize @bowhunthard88, in the past I haven't given you enough credit for your gear addiction.

Thought that story might help you feel better about the purchase @TreeCreep :)

Super impressed by this little Badlands Rise pack! Only one zipper and it’s on the inside. Outside material is quiet and built tough , like all other badlands packs are.

So last week I decided to order another backpack. I had already received the Kuiu Divide 3000, the Kuiu Venture 2300 was hung up at the post office, and i tried the Platow a couple weeks ago.

Spending way too much time watching videos and wading through threads on here, I seen someone mention that Camofire had the Mystery Ranch Popup 30 on sale for a great price. Went and checked if out, but they only had a size small available. Dug around some more, and ended up with a Sawtooth 45. I decided to also pickup Mystery Ranch Forage side pouches for the waist belt, and the hunting daypack lid to match.

So far i like it. This is my first frame pack. After some initial adjustments to the frame height and all that, I found a comfortable setting and loaded it up. I finally see what the deal is with frame packs. Not sure how the science behind it works, but it actually feels lighter with the same stuff packed in it than any of my non-frame packs. Witchcraft i tell ya!

The detachable lid has two big pockets, and it's own set of backpack straps. During season, I plan to keep my kill kit in one pocket, and my lunch in the other. On scouting days, I will likely only carry this smaller pack in, and put my snippers, hand saw, bright eyes, orange tape, etc in one pouch and lunch in the other. Pretty nifty piece of kit.

So it comfortably holds all my gear, my warmest outer layer, a packable down puffy vest, rain gear, my orange vest, and my EDP and sticks. I'm still experimenting with the placement of the sticks and platform. Currently the sticks are in the shelf area sandwiched between the pack and frame. I had them strapped to the sides of the pack, but this blocks the water bottle pockets. If I go this route there's some extra molle on the waist belt I'll have to get a nalgene holster for. Open to suggestions on better ways to strap these things to the pack.

My only reservations so far are how it's going to be lugging it up into the tree, and the color. It's a big pack, and may be cumbersome up the tree. As for the color, not crazy about toting a deer colored backpack through the public woods lol. I'll probably pick up the big orange rain cover just for that reason.

When ever I’m using a frame pack I have a Doyle’s that lives on the belt & wear the pack up & pull up my weapon. As far as bulk in the tree, it’s an adjustment but I have a pc of paracord girth hitched to the top of the pack & hang the lid just at or above my right knee. Works well for access with little movement.

Not to try and derail the thread, but you need more banjos to counteract the guitars. And all left handed too. Nice!

Currently thinking about pulling the trigger on this bag as well, can't really beat the price for the next 8 hours...curious if it looks like a LWCG .5 would pack well between frame and bag? What's the measurement from bottom of bag to top of frame/load lifters, without the meat shelf deployed?

Looks like roughly 25 inches give or take.

I have a hang on i can try and strap into it if you want. In the load shelf.

I dont like this part. If i lean my head back just a bit I hit it on the post. Which I guess could be slightly negated if I turned the stand around in the pack but this was my first time loading it up for the hang on. I'll know next time. May even flip it over to where the seat cushion is behind my head.

Got some xperimentin to do lol

Also, I forgot to mention in the post where I said it was roughly 25 inches, I have the XL frame. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks BT, this is how I assumed I would need to do it (but flipped around, as you said) - went ahead and made the order, won't feel terrible if it winds up on the SH classifieds if I don't have to eat too much!

Looks like it isn't all that bad though, as long as there ain't much slop I'll make it work

Cool deal. Glad I could help. There's no slop. This thing is stuck in there and ain't moving. You got 2 straps on the bottom to tighten, two on each side, and 2 up top.

If you end up wanting the lid and can't find one, I found mine on MidwayUSA as an open box item for $105 I think? And I got the side pouches from GoHunt.com
