"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

Has anyone used the predator pack or the predator pack XL for other platforms? I’m looking to get platform back for my Trophyline EDP. I know Backwoods Mobile has one but just asking to see.

After much debate with myself. I pulled the trigger on the Venture Divide 2000. I think it will serve me well.

That an edp? Think u could use the side buckles to stow stick’s horizontal?

Yeah it's the edp. Are you talking about the buckles that are holding the platform to the pack? If so, I believe they would yes. I can double check though.

Yes but like maybe stick the bottom of the Stick in the drink holders if they have some

I do like the quiet fleece like fabric…… interested to see some you tube videos to get a better feel of the pack.

The brand name out west pack makers that put out quality packs always miss the mark with fabric for tree-stand hunters in my opinion. Hard to find a fleece pack with any structure.

Have you looked at the MR Treehouse packs?

Did you just cut out the expandable fabric to accommodate your EDP? I admittedly purchased the same bag from Kuiu after seeing your picture and mine arrived today.

Yep. I went down the seam and removed the stitch, then took a pair of scissors and cut down the middle. I singed the ends so they wouldn't fray. Then I folded the material over itself and put a stitch down all four pieces. EDP fits well in there. I'm sure it would accommodate most platforms. Love the pack.

I’ve been using the kifaru gunbearer for this application. I’m curious to see if this is as quiet and efficient. It sure would be nice not having my gun barrel in line of sight all day.

I watched the video on it yesterday and thought it a bit laborious to unsling efficiently. But according to posts on Rokslide there is a way to rig it for forward carry and maybe a follow up video on that will be later released.

I agree, the buckle over the shoulder looks awkward. I like the idea of being able to quickly access my rifle, but I'm a Midwestern still-hunter at heart rather than a mountain goat. I wonder if a strong magnet would hold the barrel securely enough?

Idk

For still hunting whitetails, whatever the release mechanism is it better be fast or you’ll lose out on opportunities. I lost a chance at a great buck a few years ago because I put a neoprene cover over my scope to keep falling slush out. Buck nearly ran me over but by the time I got the cover off, it was slim chances and I never took the shot.

On the flip side you don’t want your rifle and scope crashing to the ground, so secure is also an important element.

Timber Ninja has those 3 quarter moon slotted magnets and there could be something there for this application, but I saw a video where one was unlatching on the saddle when the user induced angle and bounce.

For transport in the dark to and from a spot, the K4 style should be nice, while also offering decent access. But for active hunting, I think I favor gun in hand. I ran my rifle cross body on a tactical sling a few years ago and it was decent, but I didn’t like the sling once I was hanging at height

The Kifaru gun bearer is the middle ground. Really quite fast and provides decent load management, albeit awkward for some.

Folks have been combining parts from different manufacturers carry systems to customize their rig and that still seems a good option.
