I went out last Saturday, found a group of trees dropping persimmons and started looking for a tree to climb. My top 5 choices were rotted at the base and I decided to climb one of the persimmon trees growing in the middle of the group because it offered good cover.
15 feet up, my only shot opportunity is to my right side between 1 and 3 o'clock.
Around 4pm, a doe pops out at 35yds from my 7 o'clock, then disappeared behind some brush.no shot. 10 minutes later a wide 6 materialized at 8yards from behind at my 5 o'clock position. Again shot is blocked.
I saw the 6 point while hanging and looking backwards over my left shoulder. To shoot, I needed to turn around. I turned around ever so slowly to him gone. He made no sound but must have grown wings.
10 minutes later and now facing the tree again, I look for the doe to my left. She is now, < 2yds, below my tree smelling where I had peed only 15 minutes earlier. She is also blocked by a limb. As I turn and contemplate rappelling on my new stitcht hitch to get a better vanatage, she blows, and blows, and for 5 minutes she doesn't stop until she must be 100yds away. She comes back a few minutes later, blows a few times then runs off again.
An hour before dark a coyote howls and sets of a chain reaction until end of shooting light. No more deer to be seen.
I get down, forget my gear strap in the tree and my rappelling rope gets tangled in the thorn bush I peed on a few hours earlier.
I walk out thinking next time I'm sitting on the ground.
