Going back to the very OK Eberlestock m1 mainframe i have in order to fund the FL stuff I just bought I think. I love the Kuiu Pack for its comfort and modularity but I hate myself for bringing more gear because that pack handles weight so well. There’s no reason I should look like I’m hunting out west headed 1-2miles into public land for whitetail. It’s a shame, I’m conflicted.

I would have thought the Mainframe carries just as much as the Kuiu. Probably not as comfortable.
 
Biggest shame by far was killing 6 turkeys illegally over bait up until my early twenties. I still get sick thinking about it sometimes. Killed 1000 song birds with my pellet gun as a kid.
Fessed up to all this on my polygraph test for the state police. Trooper just said so I take it you enjoy murdering and maiming animals is that it? Surprisingly I wasn't disqualified for that
 
I took 3 days off work (W, Th, F) to hunt the last part of rifle season by myself in the mountains.

First morning (Wednesday), I went somewhere I shouldn't have in my truck. On the way down, I started sliding in the snow/ice bad. I dropped it in first to hold me back. Instantly, every light on my truck came on, it made a beeping noise, and I smelt burnt transmission fluid BAD.

Right then, 2 hunters came by this very remote area. I paid them to drive me to civilization/cell phone coverage. I paid $300 to get my truck towed to a Toyota dealer and then got a ride home. Ruined my hunting trip. And I still have to drive 3 hours to pack up the cabin and clean it up.

Toyota dealer just called. The truck is absolutely fine. I could've kept hunting!

Yeah what he said, what kind of diagnostic work did they do? Fluid flush? or no codes and drives fine so everything is okay for now

I'm going to ask when I pick it up.

I talked to a buddy that is very knowledgeable right after this happened.

He said that my recent fluid change might have resulted in the transfer case being slightly overfilled and that combined with 10 F temperatures (thick fluids) and going down a steep hill in that manner probably caused the fluid pressure to spike. In manual Tacomas he said there is a pressure release valve located so that when it releases it actually shoots the fluid onto your exhaust! Which seems like a weird choice to me.

The burnt transmission fluid smell was so strong and immediate and foreign I thought "that's gasoline and I need to get out of this truck right now".

It was super cold and when 2 hunters came by in an SUV, I just thought "I need off this mountain right now"....rest is history.

They plugged it into the diagnostic thing. Put it up on a lift and looked at it and sent me a video of that. Checked all the fluid levels. Then drove it and it drove fine. There was a code and they cleared it.

PS...I called my buddy that I spoke with before and he wasn't surprised at all that nothing was hurt and they didn't need to do anything.
 
I missed a spike at 50 yards with my flintlock, got another shot at him an hour later at 40 yards and missed again. What was the issue? I didn’t have my glasses on and apparently develop a huge flinch when shooting a flintlock offhand. You guessed it, I didn’t practice offhand. Shot lots off a rest getting the load developed, just didn’t practice offhand.

I always carry a set of sticks. Helps w/old mans knees but also soo solid for shooting.
