A place to talk about things you're giving a shot and liking. It can be new food, new books, new hobbies, new people...whatever. Starting because as I creep into my 30s I can already feel the mental ossification setting in.

I'll start.

I have gotten wrapped up in fly fishing, which I still don't quite understand since its basically the trad-bow hunting version of fishing. But I'm loving it. Tying flies, flicking flies, and trying to detect fish biting those flies is something that requires you to be present, and I'm coming to appreciate that more and more. It's a stark contrast to the way I have historically hunted and fished, placing an emphasis on results first.

Also bought my first packet of green tea this week. Trying to develop an appreciation for the world's most ubiquitous beverage. Slow going, tbh. My favorite part about it so far is the little Japanese tea cup my wife gifted me.

I have a good friend that just got into fly fishing here this last year and his enthusiasm has been tempting me to try it. It looks like a lot of fun.

I've been trying to pick up disc golf. Spent a couple months last summer practicing and learning backhand form and am playing some this spring. Been a good hobbie to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

I keep kicking around buying a set. The boat ramp by my house has a course.

I spent two years living in china so green tea became a staple for me years ago. There’s pretty much nothing I want eat after that too.

What's your favorite?
Honestly I don’t read characters so I never really knew what was what when it came to brands. I really can’t tell any difference between Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc. I do however use loose leaf only and never bags. Just keep it in the original packaging and don’t carry it around in a ziplock bag. It looks a lot like weed and can draw unwanted attention in the US, lol. If you want a sweet treat try some “eight treasures tea” or chrysanthemum tea.

I’ve been kicking around the idea of introducing the grandkids to fly fishing, but with a simple twist. I started out fishing popping bugs years ago without a fly rod. I learned of old timers that tied a fixed length of floating fly line with a leader on cane poles. A little trial and error produced the right length to roll cast around the banks.

There is a Japanese version of this that incorporates unique rods and other accessories. I’m going redneck version and whip up something cheap.

Funny you mention that. I have a tenkara rod. I think it's pretty handy for bluegill.

That’s basically Tenkara fishing

I was looking at buying a 10ft lightweight rod to vertical jig for crappie. Just for gigggles I put a spinning reel on my 10ft 5wt fly rod. Works like a charm except my son has taken it over. I’ll probably start using my 9ft 5wt in the same manner. Lefty Kreh would probably roll over in his grave but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Started hunting this year w/a Daniel Defense AR w/my summer nuisance tags. Just seems so much more fun than a bolt action and very accurate. I'm going to sell my Savage 110 Classic and maybe buy another AR platform. I know the world thinks they are scary but I really enjoy shooting them. Also bought a four wheeler for carrying out my nuisance tags. Never used one for hunting but it is handy.

What caliber is your AR? I’m looking at getting a 450 upper to swap out with my 5.56 for reduction hunts. I have a Ruger American bolt action in 450. But I think the semi auto would be nice for the reduction hunts and I already have 450 ammo.

@Nutterbuster - you about to become someone’s Daddy. That’s going to make you try something new and think different! LOL.

Maybe not an hobby, but this idea of not living up to my potential as really gnawed at me for the last couple of years. I think back to high school and college where I was lazy and unmotivated. I was a consistent B to C grade student. And looking back I could have gotten A's consistently(except math I suck at math lol). I was also fat with manboobs up to my second year in college hence the name bigmike. Now I am athletic and go to the gym 5-6 days a week. I won't say I love it, but I can't stand not living up to my physiques potential. And finally my career. I have a very good job as a tech level 2 in a manufacturing facility. Way above average pay and a ridiculous amount of time off to hunt. But as a kid, through high school and college, to now I always wanted to be a PA State Trooper. My hunting time would plummet dramatically, and my stress will certainly go up. But I can't help but think it's going to eat me alive when Im older, and look back on my life that I never tried. So now I have my polygraph scheduled in the next couple of weeks. Dont know if I'll get in. I already admitted to a litany of hunting laws broke as a kid into my early-mid twenties. If I'm disqualified at least I can close that door and move on finally.
