Things I'm Changing after Saddlepalooza

Man this is a great thread - I think I need to pick up a few things:
1. $500 Gecko spurs LOL. Holy crap were those light!!! But I need to find some less expensive options
2. Also loved the mini LB by @Jcar but it didn’t register until @bowhunter15 mentioned it
3. I ordered the Kuiu pouch bowhunter15 showed us and now need to find the HME strap he used as a gear hanger - loved how simple and easily accessed that was - so far not finding it yet
4. anxiously awaiting the new platform from Ernie for any time I’m not using my Stepps
5. Totally forgot to get @Boudreaux to show me the Outpaq but I’m interested in that after seeing his videos

Honestly I don't remember exactly. If Jess or someone else has a picture of it, it would be appreciated.

Going to try the wild edge steps for another option of climbing a tree.
New set of sticks that are a bit lighter than my old gorrila sticks. Going to try a amsteel bridge also.

X2 on the amsteel bridge but adjustable.

@Big Country is right. @Jcar was using a 7/64ths Amsteel whoopie sling as a secondary bridge. This is genius. It packs up to the size of a pen, weighs nothing, and is only used to move around branches. There are lots of uses for something like this in your pack. Plus it has a 1600lb breaking strength.

I like the idea of a secondary bridge. There are a fair number of arborists that run them. Everyone hates seeing the bridge failures on the forums.

I could have used about two weeks with everybody. I was still learning new stuff, like the mini linesman's belt, as I was telling everyone goodbye! Thanks for that @Jcar. What a cool idea. And thanks @bowhunter15 for this thread and reminding me of things I saw and slipped my mind. So much information, such a little brain.

Quick clarifying question, I see mention above of a second bridge and then see reference to moving around branches. Is this a second bridge or second lineman’s belt? I love the idea and actually see benefit in both, yet want to understand what others are actually doing.

It could be either or both. It really depends on your system.

The mention of a second or mini lineman's belt used by @Jcar I believe is what you're referencing. She used 7/16 amsteel if I remember correctly as a second lineman's belt so if she had to move around limbs she could do so safely without having to carry a second full-size lineman's belt. She also sewed in a second pouch just to carry her mini lineman's belt inside of the pouch that carried her full size lineman's belt. So everything was kept together. It really was a genius idea.

Would it be considered foolish to clip the second linemans into the same carabiner when needed? The risk would seem low to me, especially if the primary one is under tension. That way it is less stuff and clutter to deal with. Pete

I don't think it would be foolish but I do believe when you hook the second lineman's belt in it would be in the way of removing the first one. So you would have to disconnect the first one and be unhooked from the tree and then hook the second one which would not be a safe. I don't think the addition of one extra carabiner would be that much more to keep up with for the sake of being safe.

Right....didn't think of that :)

lol. Someone is making a killing on those pouches on the ebay market. Kuiu had them in their outlet for $1 last year.

I still need to play with it but I doubt I will make any changes. If I question my bridge, I should be questioning my tether and linemans belt. They are all 11 mm static, all have an ascender, and they all work together so I never need a second linemans belt to go around limbs fast. Plus my tether is also my climbing aider. And my bridge doubles as suspenders ;)

-Trying an Amsteel bridge. I love the functionality of my Samson Predator bridge with Ropeman for adjustability. Amsteel is so much lighter and less bulky, but not as adjustable in a bridge. The main reason I like the adjustment is so I can lengthen and toss over my shoulders while walking. So I'm going to try a fixed amsteel bridge long enough to go over my shoulders. It should work, since I had done the same concept with webbing on my old SitDrag.
-Amsteel mini lineman's belt. Jess had a mini lineman's belt she used when going around branches. It seems like a great idea.

Ropes seem to be the best place to cut bulk. I really want to trim my bridge and linemans belt. Do the mini belts use splices or something else for adjustment? The treestrap is another one too. I'm thinking going to webbing with a buckle. I would say all of the samson predator and yale bandit I currently use is approximately the same amount of bulk as the saddle itself!

Could you elaborate a bit on the bridge failures (examples, what part of the system is failing, equipment specifics)? I haven't really heard of any such instances but that is obviously a bit concerning for a new/prospective saddle user.

I've never personally heard of a bridge failure on a hunting saddle. I can't really think of what would cause one either unless it is set up wrong from the beginning.
