Thinking of dumping all cameras.

Not that cameras aren’t cool and make it easier seeing what’s on the menu. Thing is, seemed to be more exciting to see a deer that you never new was there before cameras came along. There are pros and cons here for sure but it seemed like I used to get more satisfaction just reading sign, like reading tracks, rub, scrapes and picturing in my mind what he looks like before a camera or cell phone cam sent me the picture.
Anyone feeling like dumping your cameras too?

I did several years ago for the same reason plus I just got sick of dealing with cards and theft. No regrets here.

I think Cody Daquisto dropped cameras for this exact reason. You can always just leave them for the season in bedding areas etc and not touch them too. I like them for chasing specific deer too much personally but I also like hunting areas where I have no cameras

I think you’re on the right track as well. The only parcel I run a camera on is a ranch that has livestock and it’s there for coyote traffic purposes so the rancher can check it as well. I saw the biggest buck I’ve ever seen this season and he never showed one time on the camera. I found that the constant checking of cameras, the drama involved etc just started sucking the joy out of it for me. I already know the deer are there so I just go hunt and be surprised with whatever comes my way. B

I run cameras for inventory. Why am I waiting all season for a 10 pointer if the largest deer on my property is a big 6? I may not shoot that 6, but also gives me a greener light to shoot more does.
And, I have switched over to mostly cell cameras and lithium batteries, no need to check cards or change batteries all season long.

Yea, I’ve been debating this for a while now. This year I reluctantly put 3 up. Still haven’t checked them and that’s been since august.
I don’t consider myself a lazy person but I’m about to give someone the gps location and they can have them lol

Also tired of the common hunting “buddy” lingo of “got any big ones on cam”. Maybe I like being different but I get tired of the normal tv style of hunting

I quit putting out cameras a couple of years ago. My "old school" geezer ways don't really align with the idea of cell cams (at least for me) and my old school card cameras meant I had to intrude on the area they were in to check on the activity, exactly what I didn't want to do. I'm also a firm believer of first sit is best sit and I don't want to contaminate my best areas with scent to check a camera. I might as well hunt it if I'm going in there.

This year I posted my old trail cameras around my camper while I was hunting remote to capture evidence if someone was messing with my remote camp.

I agree with you sometimes they never show up on the camera. But I know checking them all the time they tend to avoid the area. It seams that way anyway. Thanks for the input.

I only run cameras for my nuisance wildlife business as it saves me gas. Im just not that picky on deer other than no fawns and spikes. Hunting specific deer is just an obsession level I don't want to get to. Unless I am getting paid to get rid of a certain deer which I can't ever see happening.

Totally get what you’re saying. For me though I don’t believe cameras show all. So I’d be like what if I shoot this 10 but really there’s a big 12 that doesn’t come in front of your camera. To each their own! Haha I do like seeing other peoples opinions on this stuff

My best 10 years of hunting are behind me(25 total so far). My next ten will be really good but not great. And the ten after that will be ok…if I even have them. I moved to a new state, and have a baby on the way. Maybe I’m lucky and my kid will want to hunt. If not, time will be at a premium. It already is. I learned in two months of putting a half dozen cameras out, what would’ve taken a few seasons to put together.

If I had my youth back, and no family, I’d probably give them up completely. But they’re going to be a tool that shaves a chunk out of time out of hunt preparation. I average 5+ miles a day walking from august 1-February 28 every year. My per day hunting mileage will not change. But the number of days I spend out there can be reduced drastically with cameras.

I have three cameras because they were gifts over the years. I have one set up on my food plot at my house and I only check it after the season is over to see what I didn’t see thru the season and what made it thru the season. Neat to see what survived for next seasons dreams. I check it sometime in February. The other two I keep in my truck for trips. I set on up on my truck and the other hidden to see the first camera and my truck to see if anyone was at my camp while I was away.

I think people pass nice bucks to often because they see some monster on their camera one time and get buck crazy over it. Be happy with what God let’s walk by you while you are out hunting.

I don’t have or use cameras. I also don’t have social media. It’s amazing to watch my friends all season with their faces glued to one or the other. It’s one hundred percent a personal choice and I am not advocating for or against whatever anyone else wants to do and how they want to go about it. It’s just funny to me to be a casual observer.

I do see my friends watching video and looking at pictures non stop from their cameras. Then they are on Instagram and FB looking at other peoples camera pics and videos and buck pictures etc. It is great to see what’s out there in each state and what’s moving at 5:30 am or pm or whatever and cameras benefit a lot of people and reduce time wasted away from family and work. But sometimes you have to just go and see what the allure and mystery of hunting is or isn’t. Meaning for example, I went to another state for eight days and didn’t see a single elk. But I still had the best time. No cameras, no service at all except for my Garmin in reach. It was amazing.

This is the main reason I use cams! I have been in the quality over quantity of hunting days camp for many years.

I don’t have unlimited time to spend away from work, so I rely on the cams to know that there are targets worth pursuing on my properties or I will not waste time. I do not enjoy hunting randomly and I expect to see a target buck every time in the woods (obviously doesn’t happen each time out).

I also only use cell cams and do not go near them once set unless I move one, so the argument of checking them and spooking deer only applies to the cheap cams.

You are starting out with the right mindset becoming a father and I can advise you that when you reach those points where you have to choose between a hunt or time with the kid, choose the kid. Spoken by one who didn’t always follow that advice and now have regrets.

The best thing you guys could do is dump all those cell cams immediately, especially Tactacam Reveal X models, Verizon specifically, and because I’m such a nice guy Topdog is here with Paypal ready to give those bothersome cell cams a good home, PM’s are welcome my friends, let me end the horrific 1 AM notification of a giant nocturnal buck that was never meant to be, hunting can be stress free again by simply unloading all those cameras at a discount rate to a member you know and trust that will treat them right!!!
