Thinking of going to thumb release..

I didn't even shoot well. it basically needs to be hanging on edge to be sensitive, if you're not consistent you can send arrows of super early. If it's not set that sensitive, you just punch it like any other release, or do the double take when you think it's going to release and it doesn't. Glad I didn't hit my neighbor's house...

I went on a release quest last summer after missing a big buck close and gut shooting a little smaller one the next day.
I bought a Stan Shootoff a Silverback and two Whalens a two finger and a three finger. Sold the Stan still practice with silverback and am going to give the Whalens another chance when I get home.
I also got a trad bow and am going to try shooting it this year.

Those of you struggling with a wrist release need to take a look at the Carter Like Mike and set it short and really heavy. You need to wrap you finger solidly around the trigger and really pull through the shot to get it to go off. There is absolutely no way you can punch that heavy trigger and it really forces you to quit slapping at the trigger and makes you commit to the shot. Just to show how much I love my Like Mike I spent several years of indoor leagues shooting thumb buttons and hinges, even shot a 60x round in my house with a hinge. Never could get the consistency during tournaments or increased pressure situations.

When you wrap the trigger with finger (trigger should be against the trigger finger between the 1st joint and 2nd from the tip) and pull through, this does not mean for you to squeeze the trigger with the finger, finger does not move, you push and pull to activate the shot.
I'm I correct, @FletchDeep?

Yes I'm more of a straight pull and keeping a solid front arm than trying to push though. But yes you want to eliminate finger movement and use tension to activate the release.

I using a just b cuz for a while now and love it. It’s alway ready to kill something and if you self film it will make filming much easier.

I shot a thumb release for a couple seasons. I shot well, but wouldn't say my groups tightened up significantly. I had a couple mishaps, however, that made me switch back the the wrist strap style release. On two separate occasions, while practicing, I was at full draw and flinched a little, causing the string to unexpectedly come off of high dwell. When that happened, the release slipped out of my hand and the arrow and release went flying in unintended places. Another time, while drawing on a deer, I had a problem with my shoulder (unrelated to the release). I didn't end up taking the shot, but tried drawing back again to see what the deal was with my shoulder. When I went to let down, the trigger caught my facemask and shot my arrow right into a tree. This wouldn't have happened with an index finger/wrist strap style release. I was also always nervous I would accidentally hit the trigger while my bow was on the hanger, causing my release to fall to the ground. Way too much stress for me causing me to lose focus on actually hunting. I'll never go back.

Made the switch this summer. Found I was consistently punching the trigger with my wrist release loosing accuracy. The thumb release was an instant improvement. The other added benefit is now I have nothing dangling from my wrist while in the tree. No more knocking into things or getting caught up in my hand muff. Just clip it on your string and it is ready when you are. I shoot a Carter nock 2 it and a Carter wise choice three finger as back up.

I’ve got a silverback the back tension version of the nock 2 it. It has a very loud cocking noise and the hook doesn’t completely capture the dloop . Question I thought the Nock 2 It was the same just with a trigger. Does it not make the same noise when you cock it and does it completely capture the string or is there a gap after cocked.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Bongo, I will check tomorrow and get back to you on the gap problem, I never noticed any gap when closed. There is definitely a slight click when cocking but it never seemed loud at all. Could just be subjective, but It never seemed like an issue to me.

My silverback is loud and won’t stay on my dloop. So if it were calm conditions I think I would get busted at twenty yards cocking it. If I could leave it on the string wouldn’t have to cock it till second shot. I have a friend that shoots in national tournaments with 2 Nock 2 It’s set at different pressures and doesn’t mark them so he can’t anticipate the shot. He usually shoots first or second in his class.
I haven’t bought a Nock 2 it for this reason but I had a Stan Shootoff last year and sold it after I bloodied my mouth and let it go twice. Second time took me a half hour to find it First time I killed a QAD QDX drop away and had to buy a new one.

Hangs on string just fine for me. No gap either and very slight click when engaging. I would contact them and let them know of your issues. I had an issue with a Carter release last year. I sent an email and received a quick response and the issue was resolved fast and with no charge. They stand behind their products.

Thanks for the quick response on this my wife is going to be very happy.
I will have to try one now.
I like my Silverback a lot but can’t hunt with it because of reasons stated earlier.
When I get home if I can remember I’ll post pictures of the difference between the two.

I'm switching from fingers to release and I'm struggling between a wrist release and a thumb as well.

On Mathews pro staff so am shooting a couple Halon X's at 55 lbs.

Going on my first hunt shooting a release, in the car now debating on which one to shoot cuz I have both thumb and wrist

I have both. The Silverback is much louder than the Nock2It. As stated, the Nock2It can be quietly attached to the dloop and left there.

The Nock2It is loud when it fires. Not loud compared to a bow, but if for whatever reason you want to remove it from the dloop it will be just as loud as the Silverback click.

However there is a trick: you can hold down the cocking tab as you press the trigger so that it doesn’t pop out with force as it fires. This will let you open it open quietly.

Thanks I’ll be trying my friends when I get home and decide whether I just have to have one or not.
