This ammo shortage SUCKS

I think we are in for alot more shortages then just ammo it has already started around where I live!!! But yes the ammo prices and shortages are ridiculous!!!!

Here’s my ammo for this season… $24 shaft, $3 fP and $30 BH…. Not cheaper. But renewable killing potential for all the tree hugging hunters out there. Hahahah

This is what I have been doing for years!!!

muzzleloaders are easier to feed these days, right?
Just a thought, and it can be lots cheaper in most cases.

Yeah around here most people don't buy up the muzzleloader stuff until the week before muzzleloader season. I saw several things of BH209 and other bullets and pellets on the shelf at Walmart. I bought a bulk order of bullets and sabots from Harvester last season. Also got a big jug of BH209. So if nothing else I'm good to go with my smokepole.

I agree, although it’s a super bad time to get into reloading is the problem, the real secret is when all this dust settles.... and things get back to normal, then hoard a bunch of reloading stuff, so when it happens again someday none of this matters... I have been done with factory loaded rifle ammo for a while and it’s a good feeling when this **** happens. In the meantime for anybody looking to get into reloading now is a great time to start reading up on it and compiling a list of stuff you will need so when the time comes and supplies start showing up again GET WHAT you need, store it in a dry place and your good to go.
On top of the components being hard to find, the price of bullets has skyrocketed. My fav "fun" gun is my 460 S&W mag. I could get a box of 100 240gr xtp's for 23$ on sale, load 100 of them for dirt cheap. Go have fun shooting shot after shot paying no attention to how hot the barrel got and each round sounding like a 300 Weatherby going off. Look at the price today. Disgusting Screenshot_20210819-170635.jpg

I had so many partial boxes of bullets just sitting on my shelf it was a great time to dump all the stuff I didn’t need or use anymore and I did exactly that, all of it is gone, I never thought I would recoup the money I spent on some of that stuff but I did, then I stocked back up on everything I always use, through ammoseek and various sites like gunbroker I’m set now.
Finding 300 RUM brass has always been a bitch and ironically when this all started it flushed out some people have been hoarding apparently so some things were actually easier for me to find, stupid prices though. Man I just love reloading, not now in the summer or during deer season but in the winter nothing is better than tumbling some brass and building loads, I can’t wait.

Bots are the really problem, I said it before on this forum, I’m no techy guy but computer programs/bots are buying up all the good stuff as soon as it becomes available and then it ends up on sites like gunbroker where people inflate prices, same thing with lucrative camping spots at public campgrounds, water sites and stuff, it’s almost impossible getting a reservation for one of these sites because we are competing with these stupid bots that gobble up all the good sites and sell them off to people who are in the know and will pay more, I would be willing to bet the same thing is going on with Tactacam Reveal x cameras that are never in stock and keep ending up on Ebay for inflated prices.

Start rolling your own! I couldnt own the weapons I do if I didn't. .338-378 Weatherby box of 20 is 180$!!

This is great in theory but powder, bullets and especially primers are difficult to come by, at least in my area. I do load my own and I’m pretty well set on components to last me for the rest of my life for hunting. I don’t have enough for all the range time I’d like though. Hopefully this component and ammo shortage is temporary and I can restock some components.

I have had the same problem with .270 Winn. I almost sold this gun until I found the nosler-partition, but I've been on a waiting list since the end of season. I have one bullet left! I have other .270 rounds but none I'll use to hunt with.

I hunt here in Alabama and the deer here just don't have the mass like they do elsewhere. The bullets were blowing through the deer with minimal expansion and I was not able to recover several deer. Once I found the nossler partition I've recovered all deer shot and it's devastating. Problem is can't find the bullets anywhere other than some handloads marked way up with high shipping!

This year I'm bow hunting only and if I gun hunt it will be with my .44 MAG Ruger Redhawk 8" barrel with a 3x scope

No plans on using my rifle , I’m going with the bow all year . I will say my arrows aren’t any better on price per arrow than $100 box of ammo. This is an expensive hobby we have and unfortunately we just keep on buying and buying .

I could've retired by buying 22 LR bulk shells. A box of 500 went from 20 bucks pre-SHTF to over 200. Pretty risky to take all your assets and buy 22 LR though :)

I have some soft point 223 that I'l use to kill a deer if I am so inclined.

well I did actually find some REMINGTON 270 WIN 150 GR CORE-LOKT SP . $33.00 a box and $16.99 for shipping So I got 2 boxes. Wow $82.99 for 2 boxes of ammo. OUCH that hurts.

You wouldn’t know there was an ammo shortage out at the range last weekend… I was there just shooting the walk through archery course but it was non stop gun fire.

.350 legend and 222 swift seem to be everywhere…..
Yea I would speculate that 350 legend is available because so many manufactures of rifles are having feeding issues. Can’t get BT to feed in mine. If that issue continues it will kill the round.

My favorite bullet and ammo combo for deer is nosler 100 grain BT in 260. 3 years ago they were $35 a box. That type of bullet combo is great for Florida swamps. Last time they were available they were $65 a box. And that’s when I got into reloading. I’m sitting on my old brass, bought 850 bullets in the year the prices started going up. I also have my black powder I can fall back on.

I've got reloads with 9mm .355 pistol rounds and they don't feed but are good for sighting in. I heard only the flat nose pistol bullets are having the feeding problems not the round nosed rounds. I picked up a box from HMS out of Montana (they were locally stocked at a gun store) but they're just shy of $40 a box. I hope that's not true about the rounds at Wally world. I was planning on picking some up.

I read a report the other day about the production of primers being halted until 2023 already. Starting in January, they will run out of material to continue. If I can find it I will post the link. It also had a chart of lead increase, most being 10-15% across the board so in general if you can get ammo the price is going to be considerably higher as a whole. Brass isn't the issue (as much), it's the bullet itself and primers that are going to make it worse and drive prices through the roof. I generally keep 4 boxes of each caliber I own stored as well and keep my eye out for stuff friends/family are in need of.

I don't shoot much ammo anymore in case there is a rainy day. Reload many different calibers.
I was in Walmart a month ago and was surprised they only had two boxes 270 Winchester. I think they were about $50 a box.

That's what I prefer to shoot and can't find any in South Carolina. I had ti end up buying the Remington kore lokt SP

Unfortunately, I deer hunt with a .271 And .270Winchester rounds like just about all rounds are hard to find. I was able to find a few places on line that has them but the price is so high and/or you have to buy two box min. Which normally wouldn't be an Issue but, I just cant afford $100.00 for ammo and shipping. So It looks like my hunting season Is over before it even begins. Something told me I should have bought a bow this year.
If you or anyone else for that matter needs ammo, I frequent a couple.walmarts and other stores weekly and can find a few boxes of most calibers a week. Yesterday my local Walmart had 3 boxes of winchester deer season xp 270 130 grain. Just holler and I will get it and mail it to ya fir the cost.Screenshot_20210820-182457_Gallery.jpg
