Did the string break before or after you set the hook? Did you set the hook like you were fishin a texas rigged worm or use a sweeping set lie using a circle hook?

i bet he yanked so hard that if the string had held, he'd have yanked her over his head.

Right on. Could you see where the string broke? As in, did it initially point you in the right direction congruent with blood and then somewhere along the line the string ran out because it broke? If so, when the string ran out, was there any indication of what the string broke on? Tree? Rock?

I have seen string trackers used on several deer and used them myself once or twice 20+ years ago. In my experience they always break but, they will usually give you 30+ yds of string that will give you a direction the deer runs off and will often help you find first blood. I have also seen situations were the blood trail was lost and while grid searching someone found the end If the string that was still attached to the deer and were able to follow it to the dead deer.

Shooting through them isn’t an issue. You just end up with two pieces of string giving you the direction the deer runs off.

I’ve used one off and on for the past three seasons. I started using one mainly for bears since their ample fat and long hair can result in poor blood trails at times.

I found the 30 pound test to be very durable, but so heavy that it affected arrow flight. The 17 pound test does not seem to affect the flight of my arrows, but it is also more susceptible to breaking.

Over the past three seasons, I have shot one bear, and one deer with the string attached. The string broke on my bear, but that was the result of me using a very fast crossbow, which I think was just too fast for that string. The friction Created by those speeds was too much for it, and I believe it broke in the flight.

I have a bear hunting buddy, who has used one for years, and absolutely swears by it. He shot a bear a few weeks ago. His shot was a little back and he hit liver. He followed 300 yards of string before bumping the bear out of its bed after dark he went back the next morning and met a guy with a Tracking Dog and they found the bear across the highway about 100 yards from where he bumped it. I Purchased, my string, spools and canister from TurkeyHuntingSecrets.Com.

I ordered the trad tracker yesterday...Hope to see how it works on game this season....I do like the thought that even if the string breaks, it should get you down the deer exit trail enough for a blood trail to start, if there's going to be one, and also some additional intel on direction game ran.....

Killed this little buck this morning with the tracking and the string broke!!Screenshot_20231021-121403_Gallery.jpg at the arrow it was still on the broadhead arrow still in deep. I'm not really impressed with it so far 2 deer and both broke.

I believe these things are geared more towards critters that don't bleed much. I'd never use one on a four legged animal. Too much going on for what you get.

There was about 20ft of string on the ground and the deer ran 30y and was down in sight of my stand. String broke arrow was still in the deer.
I watched a YouTube video on the Trad Tracker. It’s a tiny spool, and the string is so lightweight it can be broken easily just by pulling apart with your hands. I understand the ultra light weight of the string is sold as a benefit in that it won’t affect arrow flight, but if it’s likely to break after impact what’s the point in using it. The spools sold by turkeyhuntingsecrets.com are 17 and 30lb test, and even the 17 lb is very strong and won’t break by hand. I’m very happy with mine.

I thought these were more for turkeys than deer. Tough to track blood from a flying bird, and a turkey may be a bit less likely to break a string than a large ungulate.
