Take this for what it’s worth but it’s what is working for me so far. First year with recurve, second hunt of the season so far. After first hunt I found that the stock mantis bridge was a bit too long and interfering maneuvering with the trad bow. I purchased the tri slides from @AlegahnyTom to make an adjustable webbing bridge. I’m now running a lower tether and 24” ish bridge and that appears to have improved things for me.

I grew up shooting and hunting with traditional gear but eventually got away from trad gear and bowhunting altogether for a few years. I got back into bow hunting about 7-8 yrs ago and got back into traditional archery this past year. This will be my first year hunting with a recurve in over 20 years. I am hunting with the first of about 50 bows my dad built in his life.

I’m new to this website. Just curious how many traditional bowhunters are out there and where from. Plus do u make your bows, arrows and such. Myself, I’ve been hunting with traditional equipment since the early 90s. Started making my own arrows, quivers and been building bows on and off for 19 years.

New from chicago, using long bow and recurve. First year in the saddle, still looking for my first deer. 64 years old.

40+ years, all I've ever really hunted with. hunted a tad last season with a Mathews due to shoulder issues. Trad bows are just pleasant to shoot and way more fun IMO.

Welcome to straight bows
Made them for 35-40 years. I switch to a glass recurve be when temps up here get below freezing.
Ash, yew, Osage are my bow woods.

I'm too tight to buy carbons. Always have shot aluminums but I like to build and shoot wood. They are quiet for me.

It's a blast but can be a little disheartening when you see the big boy out there at 40 yds. and only feel comfortable around 20 and in..Oh well!

Just managed to tip over my first doe this evening with a recurve, albeit from the ground at less than 10 yards. Exciting but a little disappointed in the lack of blood despite a double lung shot.

I started shooting traditional before it was called traditional, before the compound took off. Switched to. A compound because it was all the rage and my father had a small archery shop. Got back to shooting traditional in the 90’s for the challenge. It brought back the fun.

Just got a recurve this last year. Practiced pretty extensively over the spring/summer but tailed off for the compound because I knew I wouldn't be confident enough to take it in the woods. I will say though when I switched back to compound I didnt miss a beat. Definitely think traditional sets you up good for compound but not vice versa. Hoping by next year recurve will take the place as primary. No diy on it yet though.

I am hunting with a compound this year but only because I have been dealing with a frozen shoulder for almost a year. I usually hunt with self bows and arrows. I have never shot a buck with my self bows but I have shot several does. I have been making self bows and arrows since 2005.

Hard to say without more details but I’ve had several animals shot from the ground that didn’t bleed well. If you do get an exit from an elevated position it usually bleeds better. Without an exit it can be hit or miss.

Agreed, ground level exit wounds are higher on the body than from elevated stand. May take longer before blood hits the ground.

I'm traditional bowhunter now for 4 years now. I build my arrows, build my strings, and this year built my first selfbow. Tonight I installed a beaver tail grip on my selfbow tomorrow I stitch it. And I'm from south central KY
