Trespassing

I live in one of them areas were local law enforcement is lazy and tries to pass the buck to the other agencies. Only way I can get the local sheriff department to respond is tell 911 that shots were fired.

It always helps to say, “never mind. If the sheriff can’t make it, just send an ambulance instead”

That typically gets the point across.

Other than that. Well hidden trail cameras are your friend. Another trick is to get one of those valve stem pullers for tire valves. The mechanism that holds the air in can actually can be removed completely. Always do more than one tire, so the spare doesn’t get them out. You haven’t technically done any damage, and they aren’t mobile anymore so they can’t disappear before a lazy sheriff finally saunters on over.

Another thing to remember is it takes time. After you catch a few, maybe press charges, maybe scare them. Word starts getting around. But it takes time.

My father who doesn't hunt had a problem with two guys that kept coming onto his property. We'd both caught them several times but they didn't care. I was tagged out that year and my dad wanted to take his jeep and mark trees for firewood. So I rode along. We get into the middle of his woods and two guys take off running in their orange jump suites like we couldn't see them. Dad lost his temper and that jeep went straight through the woods after them. (I thought he was going to kill them to be honest.) Anyways dad hit a sapling that drilled the guy in the back. Dad laid into him and they never came back. Rumor got around town that dad was a crazy vet that almost ran them over. There hasn't been a single problem since. 100% true story we joke about every Christmas.

Lease it to a couple officers for a few years, they wont tolerate trespassing and you make a few dollars

I change my idea to Ken’s.... that is the true answer.
Heck, let them hunt for free for a couple years in exchange for scaring off the trespassers.

This is just a brilliant plan.

Edit:
In reference to root’s post... a reputation of crazy can go a long way. My first career was retail management, and I worked in a REALLY bad neighborhood at one point.

One day, undercover cops had a guy detained in my upstairs office for theft and he casually threatened them, telling them it would be in their best interest to let him go because “there were people in the neighborhood who looked up to him and he couldn’t predict what they may do if they felt he was disrespected by being taken to jail”. Apparently, this guy ran one of the main gangs in the area and had a reputation of leaving bodies.

The undercover cop told him to be very careful with threatening comments like that. The guy said he wasn’t afraid of the young cop...

the cop said to him “I’m not talking about me, and you really need to be very careful what you say”
The guy told the cop he wasn’t scared of his old retired looking partner either”...
The cop told him “I’m not talking about him either, and you REALLY need to be careful what you say right now”

Now, at this point, I’m starting to pay attention, because I’m the only other person in the room, and who else could he be talking about. The guy in custody turns around and looks at 24 year old, baby faced, 5’7” 145lb ME and says “I’m DEFINITELY not afraid of that scrawny cracker”

The cops response was perfect. He told the guy “now, I’ve given you 2 warnings... and you really should listen to them. Because... you may have friends that will walk up and stick a gun in my face, but if you piss THAT redneck off... he will shoot you from a rooftop 3 blocks away.” The guy turned and looked at me and said “bull$hit” and I just shrugged at him and went back to my work on the computer.
The cop looked over at me and said “Isaac, how far was that shot you took on that deer two weeks ago”
I responded matter of factly “482 yards” (which was a true yardage of a recent doe kill) the guy looked back at me and said “ain’t no way that’s right” I shrugged my shoulders and said “that’s just what the GPS unit said”. The cop looked at the guy and reiterated “4 city blocks...”

A couple days later, several of my cashiers informed me that I was the talk of the neighborhood. The consensus had been made that the gang leader’s impression of me was that I was a stone cold killer, and that redneck at Kroger, with the blue truck, wasn’t to be messed with.

From then on, I could stop 5 linebacker sized guys for theft by myself (just by telling them they WERE GOING to go upstairs) and they would just walk back inside to my office and wait on the police... I’m convinced the stories of me being crazy kept them from just knocking me out and making a run for it.

Not dire whats wrong with youf locsl sheriff. But ifbthere is no one there wgen he's around and he can't ID them there isnt much he can do. Thats why the trail cam and licence plates idea is good it gives them a place to start or some one to actually charge.
I caught 5 stoners on my fathers place while turkey hunting in a ghillie suit one year. They had to cross a river to get there. They swam back across faster than Phelps

the trail camera from above is a good one. I assume the land not close to where you live. Don’t start shooting. Trespassing shouldn’t carry a life sentence but shooting tresspassers just might. Just be stay on top of it and the problem will decrease. It’s people close by doing it.
The only thing to do with road hunters is limit their visibility to the interior of your property. Either plant a screen of evergreens or allow nature to do it’s thing around the edges. Re route any roads into an s curve to limit visibility down your roads. If you don’t live on the property make it hard for them to know if you are there. In other words don’t park in a place easily seen from the road so they only need to ride by to tell if your there.

Well hidden game cameras, pics of tracks, pics of vehicles. Everything time stamped and dated. Build the case for the authorities and hand it to them. Find out who they are. Avoid crossing the line, scumbags will typically endure more than an upstanding citizen.

Go talk to your local commonwealth attorney. They work for you. If your gonna gather the evidence all you need the police for is to figure out who the people are to serve warrants you can obtain.

I've dealt with this personally in the past not to this extent but the real key here is for you not to lose your cool.
In this day and age technology is unbelievable there is a lot of ways that you could monitor with trail cams drones and other monitoring equipment. If you can catch them in the act this is the best scenario take someone else with you who has a very calm and cool temperament to try to keep you from losing it I know this from experience LOL and video camera also having a Nother person with you as a witness gets you passed your word against his and then I agree blow them up on social media if your local law-enforcement won't do nothing to help you
It might sound kind of corny but the cheap signs smile you're on camera really make a person think twice before going further

I've been thinking about this a bunch, don't currently have property but I will someday....I hope. I think I would invest a significant amount in cellular cameras and place them to almost completely cover points of entry and I like the second camera idea with the cellular camera watching it. I would also consider if you live close to the area you could probably get by with wifi cameras and directional wifi antennas, you would be amazed how far some of that stuff can go. I would put everything up high in tree's and probably trim branches where needed. The other thing I would do is press charges once you have enough evidence. I think folks will realize that your serious when you actually press charges. Obviously all of my options could cost significant cash. Oh also I would put on all of your posted signs "Property Managed by Cellular Cameras" So they know they will be on camera as soon as they walk onto your property. Obvious downside to that is that they will be looking for those cameras so maybe hold off on that until you deal with the current round of idiots, once that is resolved then you can put that on your signs to prevent further issues.

Good luck!

Question: are you local yourself to the area, or are you trying to handle this from a distance?

I ask because to be brutally honest, there is little to nothing you can do if you are not consistently present on the property. If you're driving up on the weekends here and there, you'd be better off selling, especially if you cant get the law and/or a local neighbor involved. My grandfather has land on the other side of the state that for all intents and purposes belongs to the trailer-trash that live next to it.

Its not the way it should be, but I'm a realist. If you bought/leased the property as a form of stress relief, why let it keep you up at night? Cut your losses and move on.

I live on my property. All the trespassing is happening on the other side of my land. Yesterday I placed several cameras on all the entry points. Now just sit back and wait to see what I get.

Take a season and hunt somewhere else. Cut firewood and do some forrestry work on that section of your property from 7am to noon, then 3-dark. on the days you dont want to cut, get a burn permit and burn the limbs from your cutting...all day long, while its wet. No one will come to hunt there. Honestly, the deer generally get accustomed to it. Like tractors on the farm.

Oh yeah, always carry an exposed sidearm. on your own propery...doesnt even have to be loaded necessarily :) You may not always seem them when they see you, and if you look intimidating it helps.
