Sounds like your hardware failed rather than your line. Either swivel or clip.Little redemption with the rod and reel....View attachment 28679View attachment 28680
Not sure how the drop lines ended up missing.... I would upgrade but not sure what to upgrade too
I hate to lose a fish because of equipment or my negligence, I always assume it was a whopper. The clip has to be it.....main line still intact...just nothing where I clipped on. I have a bag of more clips that are a different brand...I give those a shot
Nothing to take a pic of....main line looks normal. ..just no clip. 1 blue bead is missing. I tied with a uniknot at the swivel and followed the directions for the hook side. The clips seem pretty strong....not sure how they failed. I will fix it and try again.I had 20 baits taken and 5 left this morning. No fish. I ran out of line and couldn’t get across the creek with the premade line. I tied the end down with a rock but it must not have been heavy enough.
@Weldabeast got pictures of how yours failed? I have the same little premade set as you. What knots did you use to the hook and to the clip? I think the hooks suck on these. I’m going to try some different ones. What bait were you using?
1 of the mudfish had 2 other older half rusted hooks in him....I hate to lose a fish because of equipment or my negligence, I always assume it was a whopper.
Ever tried catching gar on a piece of rope? Its an interesting technique. Here’s a link to a N. Alabama guy explaining his way.1 of the mudfish had 2 other older half rusted hooks in him....
I caught some catfish on the rod and reel so I reset in that location once I get it fixed up.
The gar must be spawning cause I seen easy over a hundred all milling around and rolling on the surface in pairs. I wish I would have taken the bow

I put a pack of catfish bait in the mail Friday morning. I was going to send two but i misplaced my package. Hope it works. I sent the shad flavored version to Swampsnyper for comparison.Ole Gene is my favorite

Years ago we just tied drop loops in our main lines and looped our line for the hook back through those. I haven’t trot lined in years but may have to show the grandkids one day. My Uncle had 40 and a 50+ cat one night on the same trot line.I took a break from the catfish and went bass fishing this weekend. I’ll go repair my lines and do a little maintenance on the new line. I never liked those trotline clips. Never used them but I can see failure issues. I’ve caught too many catfish on trotlines and know how bad they can wrap and twist a line. I can see the line twisting around those clips and opening them or getting them in a weak position where they are not getting pulled on in a straight line as intended. I’d just use them to clip on weigh as needed.

I was trying to think of another way to incorporate this knot. I really like the simplicity and utility of this knot.Yup, that’s how we use to make quick lines.
