Truck build

I've been messing with wiring here lately....I've been having a rough time diagnosing the winch. I have it wired and if I bypass the solenoids I can get it to spool in and out. Ohm the controller and it's functioning so that leaves the solenoids. They are brand new but cheapo china junk so I guess I learned my lesson there.....the 4 solenoid system is discontinued by warn and the new replacement solenoid they offer is over 200 bucks.....so after some searching I found some direct replacement, made in USA, solenoids and while looking for them found brand new replacement motor....so for 200 I'd get a new solenoid and 40 year old motor or 50 bucks more new motor and usa made direct replacement noids.....that all arrives next couple days.
I've got a box of old heavy gauge wires of various lengths and sizes from past 4x4 projects...I dug it out and found some stuff to replace/upgrade the battery cables. The positive was easy enough but I still need to make up a new ground wire...it's got a funny lead junction that bolts to the engine cross member...the cable goes from the battery terminal to the frame into the lead junction and a second wire goes from the lead block to the bell housing. I got plenty of welding wire but need to buy a couple lugs before I can make the new ground wires

I also want to install a emergency cut off switch somewhere....since this winch is hard wired/constant 12v, if something funny were to happen with noids it could theoretically get "stuck" in the "winch in" position and that could be bad...a knife could cut the scamsteel but I think a simple cut off be better option

The last of the many Jeeps I’ve built, also built a couple rock crawlers that were barely street legal
when I lived in Colorado. Now I drive a Subaru and my deer still fit in the back.

I drove wreckers for years, using wire rope multiple times a day. I'd have to unspool and re-spool my winch at the beginning and end of each shift and sometimes in the middle as well, and still had wire rope failures. This has made me a huge fan of synthetic winch ropes.
I worked for a water well drilling company for a while, had one wire rope failure while we were pulling the casing bit out to set casing. I had just finished removing the bit wrench when my boss flung me off the platform and I heard the 1/2" wire rope crack like a whip and flail about the platform briefly before disappearing down the hole. Never trusted wire rope again after that.
