Ultra Light Climbing method 2.0

I use a daisy chain for my foot loop. Not sure that's exactly the one you're looking for though.
It is not. The person girth hitched the Daisy chain/versa strap around their foot and clipped it to a carabiner attached to a tree tether. Or at least if I wasn’t dreaming from my newborn sleeplessness zombie walk, that is what I recall.

Here's my 2TC setup. Both ropes are sewn eye Oplux.

Tether: Rope, Kong Duck, biner
Foot rope: Rope, Amsteel continuous loop prusik hitched to rope

You thinking of the latest "JRB" video?

How did you like the Webbing? Thinking of trying rated Webbing instead of Oplux for the "foot" tether (bottom) part of 2-tier system, using a rated slide for foot height adjustment, Just wondering if the webbing is harder to move up and down the tree compared to rope.
i use webbing for everything .it funtioned well i didnt like any available adjusters.and lost intrest.in oregon there are alot of branches via conifers.climbing the branches is the lightest weight system .even a linemans belt is dead weight.not going to hook it and unhook it 20 times.every thing has its place but i prefer straps to ropes every time.have no evperiance with amsteel.

Not sure if I missed this but are you using a thigh loop in your setup? I am ready to give this method a try and have a set up I put together from existing materials quite like yours but no thigh loop. From reading this thread I guess the LB is a viable alternative.

I've never understood what the thigh loop is for, just seems to get in the way.

What I do after this initial setup is:
1. Connect into my tether/bridge, but keep it loose
2. Step into the foot loop, step up and wrap my other leg around the tree. It doesn't take any muscle as all you're doing is holding you against the tree
3. Move the tether up as high as I want, set it and adjust the ascender/prusik accordingly and sit down into the saddle
4. The foot loop tree attachment should be around you waist level, move it up to a comfortable height
5. Repeat steps 2-4

I only move up about 18"-24" per evolution but it's nothing more than stand up-sit down. For my foot loop, I don't raise it any higher than lifting my leg 90 degrees. For my tether, it nothing more than a comfortable height above my head, no need to reach way up. The trick is to use your hands to hold onto the tree trunk and use them to help guide you. When you stand, just stand straight up. Videos I've seen where they're wrenching their legs so high they're kissing their knees is pointless.

Doing this, I've never broken a sweat, never got tired and if I did, just switch legs. I figure once started, I can climb as fast as with sticks but it's not a race and I don't have to extend myself or use anything awkward like aiders or anything else.

I've had to do the "climb of shame" a few times and you can climb down the same way, just in reverse but rappelling is more fun.

Custom gear modification is making thigh loops I’m pretty sure.

Gave the ole 2TC method a shot today. I haven’t been in a tree in a few months. It’s not hard but does seem a bit slow like I imagined. Given it was my first time it’s not a bad start. Using a lineman’s belt and putting both of my feet in the foot loop I was able to stand pretty straight and advance the tethers efficiently. Im going to work on a different two foot loop tether attachment. Having two feet in a v shape to the tree is rock solid. I felt very comfortable and stable. @Red Beard lied about not sweating though, I was drenched. Granted, it is 95 here today. I do realize I’m climbing a somewhat dead or dying tree before anyone says it. EE954843-C248-424A-B378-53BE9ED661A4.jpeg2B97ABB6-FE66-494E-BE5A-FC1690EB43AB.png

That is the hitch with it, it is slow but it's also a tortoise and a hare thing too. If you go fast, you'll sweat and burn out. However, if you just stand up, reset, sit down, reset and repeat, it is still quick and not tiring.

95 degrees and climbing a tree... hmm.
Ok I lied. It was only 88 today with 83% humidity. It felt hot though. I know I know, it's too dang hot to think about hunting stuff. I gave in too soon and I am back to shenanigans.

Bro, if you climb anything using any method when it's 83% humidity... even in your underwear... you're going to be sweating :tearsofjoy:

I also would like to see that double foot loop rig up close.

I tried this the other day with a single foot loop and no thigh band and I wasn’t thrilled about it. I know one of these missing details will make it better (thigh loop, double foot loop, etc).

Is that "V" foot tether just rated webbing and a tri-glide?
Yea it’s just the frame belt buckles for AustriAlpine. They’re easy to use when trying new stuff with webbing without sewing. I’m not treating the foot tether as life support, just the same way I would an aider. I haven’t tried the thigh rig so I can’t knock it. What I did was hang in the tether, put my feet to the tree, let slack out of the bottom tether, progress bottom tether up under my top tether, take the slack out of the foot tether, attach lineman’s belt, stood and cinched lineman’s belt so I was up to the tree, progressed my top tether, leaned into my top tether, unhooked lineman’s and repeated. This method I realize takes one more piece of gear. Its just what I had available to me.
