Ultra Light Climbing method 2.0

Platform climbing no good?
Edit: I mean't why 2TC and not platform climb. Which is better and why?
Climbing with a platform is like one sticking... reach waaaaay up high and attach your platform, put foot in aider and ascend, tether in and reach below/behind you to remove your platform, reach waaaaay up high again.

2TC is smaller movements (18-20ish inches) and everything is directly in front of you in the waist to top of your head area. No need to contort your body or reach behind you.

Thanks. I think I'll try 2TC when the weather gets warmer. I have to rig up a foot tether. Maybe I'll have to sew a thigh strap.

Right on buddy! Some don't like the thigh loop but I think it makes the whole experience easier. :D

Just got my set up all put together. I was going to attempt it this afternoon in the yard but the only tree I have to try it on is the one the wife has about 3000 Christmas lights wrapped around. I’ll wait for another day or another tree.

I'm going to try to combine the two methods. Platform is the Preset Solo; I replaced the stock strap with the EWO strap with sewn OCB, and aider is the Work Horse. The sewn strap lets me loosen the buckle and raise the platform like I'd raise a tether without completely detaching the platform; I put a little clip on the strap where it runs between the two toothed brackets to keep the platform from sliding around too much...only about
2" of play. Idea is to platform climb like the 2TC folks at1-2' intervals; sorta inchworm up the tree until at height; rappel down. Thought I had everything I needed to give it a go until I saw the video on the Kong Hydrobot

@Red Beard How do you pull your pack and your bow up the tree after you climb? And how do you get your vest over a heavy winter jacket. Inquiring minds want to know. You mentioned in your video you were not going to show that but it might be best.

Next on my list buddy!

For SRT I tie my pack to my climbing line and my xbow to my pull down line which is always tied to the upper loop on my climbing line. I guess you could pull all your tether/rappel line out of your pouch and tie your bow to it. With no pack as you climb nothing to worry about there. Do you have an XL utility vest that you could cinch smaller for warmer weather and expand for over the coat use?

I tried the 2TC system before and wasn’t impressed. Too much work and not enough reward! However, I recently tried the 2TC system again now that I have one of thigh straps…WOW! What a difference! Very easy and smooth, up and down! Great idea and system! Big thanks to always89y & Red Beard for developing and sharing!!!

I really need to get a better thigh strap. Are they still making them?

I'm still missing the concept of a thigh strap. Granted, I'm going back to my "climb a rope with prusik's" days but in many ways is easier since the rope isn't swinging around. What I've decided on is using my tether for the harness and linemans belt for the foot loop. My rappel rope is in my pack and switch over when time to come down.

Doing it this way, my one setup can be used for 2TC and sticks without necessarily carrying anything extra rope-wise. Depending on where I'm going, I either bring the sticks or not as my ropes are the same regardless.

About a week ago I gave the two tether method a try. I didn’t find it difficult at all. I was ver slow and inefficient but I feel with some more practice it could become a viable method. For what it weighs I’ll probably just permanently leave it in my pack. If nothing else it could be a great backup for getting down the tree if a stick or rappel device was dropped.

The nice thing about 2TC is that you can use your tether and lineman's belt so those items are multi-use. With practice, I figure I'm at least as quick as sticks and it's less fiddly, all you do is stand up and sit down. The one thing with it is don't try to extend yourself. I only move about 18" per set but it's easy. SRT is the quickest to climb assuming you have the tree staged with paracord. I'd argue that 1-stick is the slowest and least ergonomic but that's just me.

Here's the odd part with me. I'm scared to death of heights and can give myself vertigo if I think about it. I was also certified for high-angle rescue so go figure. Anyways, I'm still not fully comfortable at height on a platform with a tether. However, I can climb SRT to any height and be 100% comfortable. It's funny what the mind will accept and ignore.

the first climbing system i tryed making my self was a 2t system out of webbing . i was pretty new still never finished it..should give it another try
How did you like the Webbing? Thinking of trying rated Webbing instead of Oplux for the "foot" tether (bottom) part of 2-tier system, using a rated slide for foot height adjustment, Just wondering if the webbing is harder to move up and down the tree compared to rope.

So, I know I saw this recently on one of the 2TC threads, but hopefully somebody can direct my attention to that thread.
I’m looking for the posts where somebody was using 2 foot loops for their system instead of 1 foot loop and the thigh band. Or perhaps it was a foot loop made from an amsteel daisy chain or a versa strap?
Anyway, if you recognize those things please let me know where it was. Thank you

I use a daisy chain for my foot loop. Not sure that's exactly the one you're looking for though.
