Versa aider

Wow that video is awesome. Now I’m torn between a versa aider and the cable aiders from Eastern Woods Outdoors.

Same boat here.
Although i did climb a couple times w the versa on different sticks, and thought it pretty smooth! Can work for WE too

I have a versa aider. I am going to try a CAYG aider again but put a castration band around it to keep on my foot with nothing in the webbing to keep it open. I have been practicing with the versa aider and still find it a little sketchy coming down in the dark trying to get the loop over the versa button at mid step down.
I felt the same way ... I just girth hitched a small continuous loop of climbing rope to the Amsteel loop to make it longer , then I just loop that around my top step instead of the button on the way down ... I feel much more secure!

I rappel down no matter how I climb up.

I was thinking incorporating that As well especially since I spur climb so often but then I read a post from a fellow SH who broke his back this year and then I figured I would delay my switch until one day when I can get to saddlepalooza and get face to face demo instructions!

I remember his post about falling, but can't remember why he fell? I have researched a lot, asked a bunch of questions and practiced at ground level. It is all dangerous, but I feel really safe

I like everything about the versa aider setup, except you can only get around 6ft - 7ft or so per stick...right? I like using just two sticks and right now I'm able to get 8ft - 9ft per stick with my CAYG 5 step aider.

Has anyone created a two step versa aider with the bottom still cinched to one of your feet? Basically the same thing as a single step versa aider strap, just longer and with a second step in the center? Would this work??

How do you attach your stick to the tree at 9’ from the ground?

How do you attach your stick to the tree at 9’ from the ground?

So, I'm using two sticks, but you could use as many as you want. As I'm going to climb up I prop my second stick up against the tree on a sight angle and kind of push the bottom into the ground so it's more secure. I attach my linemans belt, grab my first stick and step onto the top step of my second stick that is at ground level. This right there will get you 1.5 feet, depending on the length of your sticks. Then, I tighten up my linemans belt so I'm pretty close to the tree. As I'm attaching my first stick, I try to get the rope, versa strap, or daisychain etc. up as high as I can on the backside of the tree. Secure the stick and step off so I can attach my CAYG 5 step aider. Grab the second stick that I was standing on, and climb up (I attach my second stick to my saddle so I don't have to carry it). This should get the top of your first stick around 9 feet.

Get to the top of your first stick, tighten up linemans belt so you are pretty close to the tree, and do the same thing with your second stick. Again, by reaching up as high as you can and throwing up the rope, versa strap, or daisychain etc. on the backside of the tree. Secure the stick, reach down to grab the aider and attach it to the second stick....climb up. This should get the top of your second stick around 8 more feet, equaling around 17-18 feet.

You can also attach your platform 1-2 feet higher, which would get you around 19-20 feet.
