I am looking into upgrading my binos and I was wondering if the vortex razors are worth the extra money?? I can currently get a pair of viper hd 10x42 for $450 and I can get the razor hd 10x42 for $699 ( not the UHD) so for roughly $300 more is it worth it ?? And also what’s the biggest difference in the HD and the UHD ?? Is it worth it to get the UHD ???

I've gone down the cheaper glass route and ended up regretting it later. I think the best recommendation I've heard regarding optics is to get the best you can afford or are willing to spend. The higher end glass costs more for a reason. Your eyes will thank you if you use the optic(s) for extended periods, among other benefits.

the lifetime no questions asked warranty on Vortex optics are worth the cost. If they ever become damaged, just contact them and they will email you a shipping label, send it in and they will fix it and ship it back. Truly buy once, cry once.

Very true statement!

I just got those exact binos (though I haven't done a ton of testing with them). Become a Cabelas member and get another $100 off. My very first impression of them is they are on par with my current Nikon Monarks (the older version). I also have some low end Leupolds and Vortex Diamondbacks and they are way superior to both of those. If I hunt this weekend, I plan to carry both the Razor and the Monarks for some real world testing.

Before you go with Vortex check out the Zeiss Terra ED’s. Zeiss also has a great warranty,
And after sitting on both the Vortex, and the Zeiss for hours a day glassing mule deer. My eyes chose the Zeiss. Midway USA has them for $400.

I bought the Vortex 8x42 and they had a fog around the outside edge like a dirty ring, but they did refund them and I bought Leupolds and love them.

Were you comparing the Razor or some other Vortex? How are the Zeiss in low light? Thanks

I have been down that lifetime warranty rout before with different products. Warrant is useless if the manufacture is out of business. If the manufacture stops making that model after 7 years they dont have to make parts anymore and the product is past its life. Another way out for the manufacture.
John E made a video and their are only about 4 companies that make their own glass.

idk, that may be true. the only experience i really have with them is a monocular where the eye relief wasnt working, and it was a pretty good experience. they handled everything for me.

I bought the compact pair of Meopta that JE recommends in his video on what he carries. About the 10:30 mark.

The Meopta are a great pair of binoculars. As far as Zeiss goes, I do not have a pair of Zeiss binos but have a scope and the light gathering on it is incredible. It has a 40mm objective and I can see deer in a field clearly way past the point they would be completely invisible to my eyes.

My experience with Vortex is if a product is end of life, they replace with the same or better current model. Their customer service is excellent.
On the other hand, the rubber on the objective lens of my Nikon riflescope fell off this season while in a saddle, and it looks like my options are deal with it, replace the scope, put some tape over the sharp edge, or buy an aftermarket eye cup.
I'm also considering upgrading my Diamondback HD binos and the Razor is high on my list.

I was comparing the razor, and the diamondbacks. Two others in my hunting party were using the Vortex. I own the 10x32’s just because they are more compact. We glassed for hours on end every day from daylight to dark. I picked up every deer they pointed out in low light conditions, and found deer they didn’t see. If you buy from Midway, and don’t like them, they typically take them back no questions asked. This was my 3rd Mule Deer trip with them, and I have yet to think I need to upgrade or change in anyway.

When using them in thick canopy here in GA, I can see with them well up to legal light and beyond.

Awesome thanks. Yeah I was thinking about ordering them just to compare to the others.

Since we went off topic a bit, anybody know a good monocular for hunting? I have the Solo 8x25 and its fine, really doesn't do anything better than my rangefinder. I was thinking about getting the 8x36 to see if that does it for me. binos seem unnecessary for 90% of my hunts, but rangefinder doesn't always cut it for glassing through thick brush

For what it's worth, Vortex will replace out of production models with new models under warranty.

I have the 10x36 and don't care for it. I prefer my 8x32 or 8x42 binos for in the woods.
