What’s your Rain solution?

Snugpak enhanced patrol poncho. Thank me later. I used military ponchos for years as they have a layerable liner but they are stiff and loud. Snugpak is the best I’ve found so far and I like it has more material towards the rear to cover your rear and your pack.

anything special to do to keep it out of the bow string or is that not an issue?

I haven’t had an issue with mine, I keep the front tucked between my bridge and just the small crease on either side of the bridge where the front/rear of the poncho meet hasn’t caused me any issues.

Can you verify that u can wear a pack underneath it? I read a review that said you could. Thanks

I ask because I thought about getting one for Turkey season and thought maybe I could put it over my pack and or vest.

I use frog tog poncho and hat and Yoder chaps. I keep meaning to get a pic...... If u wear the poncho sideways u route ur bridge and snap the side buttons so the poncho drapes over the bridge. Sandwich the poncho between ur knees and the trunk if seated..u can't use the hood when wearing it sideways so need a hat. I put my vest on under the poncho and I hang my bow or gun off my saddle so it hangs directly under my butt and stays dry there. I've been caught in some significant downpours and this keeps ya 99% dry..

Tree umbrella, works better sitting or on the ground. Old army rain poncho, great for the walk in since it covers your pack. My army poncho does not have a liner and is quieter then some of the high priced Gortex stuff I have purchased. No it's not 100% waterproof but it helps alot.
Ya you can say I dont hunt in the rain, but if you are hunting Iowa on a once in every 5 to 6 year hunt you need to find a way to make it happen. You are not going to get a deer sitting back at camp!

Can confirm. I used to use a horn hunter g2 and it fit. Dunno if I would throw it over the pack if I had sticks secured to it though, might rip it. Now if you’re loaded like you’re going on an Everest expedition it might ride up a bit in the back.
If you look at the pic on snugpak’s website that’s pretty much how it fit over my pack.

100% agree with being set up and ready at the end of a storm to see buck movement. Out of any weather pattern I think this is the most constant for me to see movement

i have one also

something that helped mine:

any opening in the jacket (cuffs mostly but also bottom and hood), i rubbed some gear aid seam sealer into the fleece just on the very edge where the fabric bends and just enough to saturate the fleece exterior so water doesn't move through that area

otherwise, the fleece being continuous from the outside and curving into the interior (unbroken by a barrier) allows water to wick into the inside of the jacket in a decent rain

i figured this out after water wicked into the cuffs and my polypro top absorbed like 1/2 gallon of water
Good tip thanks

I enjoy being outside in the elements. Investing in good rain gear is definitely worth it. I have a cabelas bib + jacket set that I purchased about 5 years ago that it quiet and waterproof. Simms fishing gear is also amazing stuff. Having the right system makes hunting in gnarly weather conditions fun.
