What broadheads are you shooting this year?

Ordered single pack of Tooth of an arrow! 125 grain - 1"

Fly great at 25 yards. Dont ever shoot much farther than that.

Going to bow shop tonight to make sure bow is tuned and then may try a COC head.

Used a 2 blade rage for many years with a 350 grain arrow and had pretty good results with a lot of deer. Kids are getting older now so I have more time to tinker with the bow. Been shooting mechanicals for what seems like 20 years. 2 blade Rages since they were developed.

This year bumped up to 510 grains- 20% FOC. Bow got quieter.

I do remember shorter blood trails with the old aluminum 2117 and a thunderhead.

And this is my first year in a saddle so I'm really pumped for the season. Be Safe!

I'm dabbling with mechanicals this year only on one property, for a change of pace and just gain knowledge.

I don’t mind sharpening. That’s one thing I like about fixed blades. I can get them sharp easily. I have always shot fixed blades but I never get a red carpet blood trail either. Everywhere I hunt is extremely thick. So thick you can’t walk through without a machete. It makes recovery a very tough job. So I thought I would try a mechanical just for the blood trails. I don’t like the idea of using a mechanical but thousands of people kill deer every year with them. For the most part they leave an excellent blood trail. So I decided to at least shoot one deer with one this year just to see for myself what happens.

Gonna be hard to not shoot my exodus, but I’m givin the VAP 3 blades a shot. Hopefully I can have couple kills to compare

I also wanted to try both of those. How has the exodus performed for you? Do you get good blood trails pretty regularly?

My saddle should be arriving shortly.

I ordered the diamondback by outdoor adventures outfitters. Been reading/watching reviews on this forum and youtube since March. Dennis Bland owner of OAO is great guy and provides excellent customer service. My ridgerunner platform arrived last week. That thing is solid! It took 2 attempts to cam it in. 1st attempt was user error!
Super Easy to cam!

I use the search component on this forum a lot! Thanks to all for so much info!

Using 125gr Magnus buzzcuts this year for sure and am looking to try a few single bevels most likely cutthroats and grizzly stik offerings The Strickland Helix has me curious so I might just add them to the mix. Gonna have me a golfbag this year... (insert ranch fairy laugh here).

As far as the discussion on bloodtrails, I know some posted they had better bloodtrails with mechanicals than fixed blades and I'm not arguing the point but for the sake of all here can we post the type of hit, first and foremost was it a complete pass thru or not and then entrance/exit location. I've used mechs since I began 15yrs ago and I can say some kills have left a blood bath (complete pass thru) and some left me wondering *** did I hit when the arrow stopped in the animal and there was no bloodtrail.

Let's start a "Broadhead Kills" thread once the seasons starts to compare how each broadhead performed. Should be entertaining for sure.

Now's the time to get the bow tuned and your terminal tackle dialed in.

Good luck to all!

125 grain nap hellrazor or 125 grain g5 montecs, not sure yet, I've used montecs and strykers in the past. Last couple of years used mechanicals.

I agree with this...would be extremely educational knowing total arrow weight, FOC%, broadhead type...passthrough or no, entrance and exit hole examination, etc. basically an autopsy of each shot/kill...would be educational!

The "***" was "w" - "t" - "f", thought that was family friendly, my bad. When did the censor police show up? lol

Cutthroats and edge broadheads from Australia. Got some kudu points on the way as well. Should have a good time with these 3. All 125gr with 150gr of ethics insert/outsert.

I love the kill thread. One for the cutthroats already. ~ 70# sow, complete pass through. Hit was a little back bc she wouldn’t stop moving but she went 100-125y and fell over. Was quite impressed. 22.5% foc and 550 taw. arrow rotated about 1/3 the way as it passed through.

Yes!!! This is an excellent idea! There are so many broadhead, arrow and bow options now days. The options are basically endless. Every year more and more products come out. There are a lot of broadhead testers on YouTube but they are mostly comparing accuracy and toughness. I don’t care how tough the head is. I can’t re use bullets. I don’t mind buying a new head for every shot. IF and only if that head is worth it. If it lays them open and drops them fast with amazing blood trails I’ll buy a new one for every shot. I want to see real life results in the field on animals. I don’t care what is does to a steel drum. I want to see blood trails! With so many heads coming to market every year there is no way reviewers can keep up. But we could! If we do this it could really make a difference! We could start to see patterns of which heads truly are the best choice.

As long as it contains all the misses from guys shooting 800 grain arrows at 150fps because they misjudged the yardage

Currently undecided on BH but will likely stick to Rage. Haven’t had any issue in over a decade, just stay away from shoulder, better off to gut shoot than mess with shoulder with a Rage. Blood trails are great

Trying out Magnus black hornets ser razor, 3 blade VPA solid, tooth of the arrow XL, and a Sevr in the mix. Shot Sevr last year and a buzz cut stinger

I’m shooting rage again this year. The blood trails are amazing and the deer go down quick. I’m not good at tracking so blood trails are extremely important to me in my BH selection.

I’m also shooting an adult arrow set up so I’m a little worried about shooting a light mechanical but I am hoping that stuff is over rated. Like, how could a rage work great for me on a lighter arrow set up and then all of a sudden bc I added some grains and FOC it’s going to turn to butter and melt when it hits a deer on a heavy arrow? I’m not buying that. I do believe the rest of what Ranch Fairy and THP say about mechanicals not doing well on a shoulder hit and fixed will excel in that scenario.

if anyone has advice on an adult fixed blade BH for a heavy arrow build that has AWESOME blood trails please let me know!

I considered doing the same thing. Heavy arrow with a rage. To me, that would be a 485 TAW. It's much heavier than 350 TAW that I used for 10 plus years with a rage. Plus I've reused my rages multiple times. This year I'm looking to shoot a BH in the 125 to 175 range that is COC but doesn't cost too much! I shoot a bunch of deer every year and dont want to spend the premium Iron Will BH price. The tooth of an arrow flew nice so far.

Any suggestions? Best options for COC BH 125-175 grain for a 3 pack under $45.

I would love to see and hear how the magnus and vpa compare. I really wanted to try them.
