What broadheads are you shooting this year?

Shooting the sevr 2.0s this year, making the switch from fixed to mech. I really wanted to shoot the 125 tooth of the arrow this year, but I couldn’t get the demo head to fly well out of my setup. And we just moved and changed jobs, so I don’t have the time to fine tune a fixed-blade arrow before the season starts.

225 vandieman single bevel.
Remember guys and gals, those silly flappers (mechanical) broadheads has a higher fail percentage than a good ole cut on contact broadhead. Keep it simple. Also, I never hunted plywood lol

Just ordered 125 grain cutthroat single bevel broadheads after watching some of the ranch fairy stuff and opinions from this forum.

I tried the hypordermics but had a very bad expierience and wont ever touch one again.

Grim reaper mechanicals worked for me on a black bear but I'm still not convinced on mechanicals.

I’m thinking about trying the German Jager 200 gr. It’s not single bevel but has good reviews and good weight

Montecs for this year again. Wanted to try blackhornet ser-razor but to much going on between home and work. Gonna sharpen them up this year

Slick trick standards. I would like to try shuttle t-locks to see if they are more quiet.

I thought about trying the vpa 3 blade solids. How have they performed for you? Do you get good blood trails?

I've shot them the past seven years based on a few reasons; they never have failed me, the majority of times I can reuse them (going into the ground against a hard rock may nick the blades), I can get them very sharp easily, and they fly very well out of a tuned bow. I like to sharpen and found that their normal steel heads may need a little work, their stainless steel come extremely sharp out of the package. Blood trails for the most part are easy enough to follow, but seldom a red carpet and one time I had barely nothing - but did make a same day recovery. I would say the majority of deer I shot fell within sight or I heard them crash, but I would still follow the blood just to gain experience. I'm not trying to change the thread subject, but imho blood can give you a ton of information, the amount of blood may supply clues to how lethal the shot placement was or may not. I've had a perfect double lung behind the crease and watched the animal bolt across the field for 120 yards (also my furthest recovery) until she just tipped over and did not even twitch when she hit the ground. In this case there was decent blood near the shot then only drops of blood for 75 yards, (I'm thinking maybe it had something to do with her on a dead run), the last 45 or so yards I barely found anything. I was initially thinking the shot may not have been good but once I examined her realized I would not change anything regarding the shot placement. I've also had times where they where spraying blood so much that trees they ran by were painted red. I'm dabbling with mechanicals this year only on one property, for a change of pace and just gain knowledge regarding the heads I'm trying but will be sticking with the VPAs on all other hunts...... just due to the confidence I've built with them.

Same here with the samurai's. Last year I used the G5 deadmeats and they did OK, but I wanted to get away from the mechanicals to a single bevel. The only thing I don't like about the samurai's is that to me, they whistle. My wife and daughter don't hear it but I do...
Your bow must be faster than mine. My montecs threeblade whistled last year when i was shooting the light arrows going 50 fps faster than this years heavy ones. The samurai's are pretty quiet for me.

Wow! Where can i check those heads

100, 125, 200 or 225 grain. I’m super impressed with the quality

I am trying a single bevel samurai 125gr this year. No reports yet. Last year i used montecs g5 and had not great bloodtrails, but both shots were not double lung but liver and lung and guts. Before that i used muzzys.

my experience with Montec G5’s was that they fly like field points but the blood trails suck. Seen lots of posts or similar opinions.

I’m shooting rage again this year. The blood trails are amazing and the deer go down quick. I’m not good at tracking so blood trails are extremely important to me in my BH selection.

I’m also shooting an adult arrow set up so I’m a little worried about shooting a light mechanical but I am hoping that stuff is over rated. Like, how could a rage work great for me on a lighter arrow set up and then all of a sudden bc I added some grains and FOC it’s going to turn to butter and melt when it hits a deer on a heavy arrow? I’m not buying that. I do believe the rest of what Ranch Fairy and THP say about mechanicals not doing well on a shoulder hit and fixed will excel in that scenario.

if anyone has advice on an adult fixed blade BH for a heavy arrow build that has AWESOME blood trails please let me know!

Ordered single pack of Tooth of an arrow! 125 grain - 1"

Fly great at 25 yards. Dont ever shoot much farther than that.

Going to bow shop tonight to make sure bow is tuned and then may try a COC head.

Used a 2 blade rage for many years with a 350 grain arrow and had pretty good results with a lot of deer. Kids are getting older now so I have more time to tinker with the bow. Been shooting mechanicals for what seems like 20 years. 2 blade Rages since they were developed.

This year bumped up to 510 grains- 20% FOC. Bow got quieter.

I do remember shorter blood trails with the old aluminum 2117 and a thunderhead.

And this is my first year in a saddle so I'm really pumped for the season. Be Safe!
