What did you do today that’s related to saddle hunting?

What makes me crazy monster, is being able to tie a knot 2 or 3 times, then forget what I just did. I’m stoked I finally got the hunters bend down pat.

I can totally relate to this. Once upon a time I was a Boatswain's Mate and pretty proud of my marlinspike seamanship. I'll still splice twisted rope and entertain myself with paracord fancywork from time to time. But for whatever reason, I screw up that dang hunter's bend 4 times out of five. Michoacan hitch, JRB Ascender hitch, no problem, but that dang hunters bend...

Yeahh the hunters bend goes good most of the time for me, if i have to retie its usually quick and simple its easy to verify. But maan i always said when i was in the navy i wish i would've sat down with some BM’s and learned some rope splicing and other things. I learned some knots during CQT but to you guy’s level not even close lol

Took a young(25yo) kid from work to the range today and let him shoot a real gun for the first time. His first shot with the .308 blew up a small tanarite (sp) can I’ve had sitting around for years….that was cool! Then he got to shoot the AR15 and 12ga.from Shorty dove loads to 3.5” Turkey loads…..still don’t know anyone shoots a 3 1/2” 12ga high brass Turkey load. Good grief!
We then went to my stomping grounds and moved a stand about 150 yards….we had a blast and it was really cool bringing him into my world. He’s never done anything like what he did today! Honestly, other than bringing my wife and kids, I haven’t either. What a fun day and I’m wiped out!

U guys see where this is going?....if u familiar with the traditional Japanese style of climbing this would work the same....the same knot pictured on the other end of a rope...tie 1 end, attach aider, climb, step into double step footloop, tie 2nd anchor with the other end of the rope, attach aider to 2nd anchor point, step into aider and pull the rope and the lower timber hitch releases.....I just gotta come up with a way to make the foot loops a little more ridged and play with the size of the loop to make for easy foot insertion.....

Built some amsteel aiders, shot my bow, finished tanning my sons first doe hide, ordered a roll pouch from Beaston and organized my bench. Time flies when your having fun.

You gonna love that pouch…..just be careful it will hold a bunch more than you may want to put in it. I love mine and I bet it lasts me my entire life!

I played a little SRT with My new guide ATC. This thing has some cool features, but I didn’t like it with the smaller resctech……base of grooves is further apart than my regular ATC. Still not there, but getting closer.
After getting frustrated and contemplating a larger rope purchase, I shot my bow instead. I did break an arrow or two, but shooting out to 60 for me is too much fun not to practice it…….I did put a few long shots in the 10 ring! I shot from 10 to 60 yards, and a bunch of in between odd yardages. I’m trying to shoot 10 rounds of 4 arrows a day, every day. Did my push-ups, pull-ups and some curls, hoping to get stronger and be in better shape this season over last….I’m already there, but not where I want to be, not even close.
I pulled a few small trees out a bedding area with some of my original Amazon rope, using a prussik loop around base of trees and a carabiner attached to main rope, with a figure 8 on my towing hitch. Using my truck to pull them out was kinda cool! Need to replace some matting in my beds and spread the pine straw I picked up. I think I’m gonna go fishing as I haven’t had the boat out in a while……May have to flip a coin

Had to do the climb of shame today. Trying out my new saddle (Orion - thanks Jamie) today and practicing 2TC. I'm getting pretty decent at 2TC so getting to height wasn't a problem. Attaching my platform - wasn't a problem. I'll be damned if I didn't drop my backpack when getting ready to transition to repel hook up with figure 8. Son of a B..... Backpack had the 8 - and pull down ropes and I didn't have a backup line tied to it. Lesson learned. Have the important stuff - 8/ropes - attached to the saddle molles. The only way they might fall is if the saddle falls off - I don't think that will happen. So, I tried to SRT up - now I know why people need ascenders. Glad I had another tether rope handy.

Im trying to learn that munter in case I drop my ATC…..haven’t quite got it yet

Did some scouting and stump shooting.
Was great to get out and find a few more spots to hunt and shoot my bow.

Man is it fun taking my son out stump shooting/scouting! Got to do more of that this year. I usually lose more arrows then he does. Probably why I don't hunt with my recurve lol

I tried to tie in while I was up there. Nope - tried to google it while I was up there - Nope.
This is the way I remember....turn on ur car ignition twice, insert biner, and I would recommend to do the second wrap to make it a super/monster munter....single munter will put a bunch of twist in ur rappel rope as u go down....jrb climbing utubes has some good videos also....

Installed 2 trees in my basement. 1 is an oak and will be permanent for testing gear while its snowing/raining outside. The other is a barkless pine that can be put up and taken down with just two bolts. The pine is for "shooting from my saddle", practicing transitions and walking around the tree stealthily. 20220306_195039.jpg20220306_194631.jpg20220306_194741.jpg20220306_194631.jpg20220306_195039.jpg

You haven't Stealth Stripped your spurs yet???
Ah, funny thing, I just got given those last week.... they're heavy steel ones but I'm excited to try learning how to use them after I make new leg straps for them. They were in the back of a lady's garage who gives me permission to hunt.... she said they were her husband's 30 years ago!
