What hunting item do you regret buying most?

Who would have thought Summit climbers would be so unpopular with saddle hunters? Oh wait ...

For the record I just gave mine away to a friend who said he was thinking about buying one. With an extra cable still in the box. Good riddance.

The only reason I have not sold mine is that my son may use it!

The only thing worse than an old Summit climber is an old API climber. On one hand, it was my first mobile treestand and it gave me some independence. I was able to expand my range and try places I hadn't hunted before.

On the other hand, it was the loudest, heaviest, clankiest, thing in the woods. I tried all kinds of different things, but could never quiet the damn thing down. The pins and chains system was very strong and secure, but man... Carrying, climbing, packing...clickety clank, clickety clank, clickety clank.

I killed a bunch of deer out of it, but looking back, I'm not sure how... :tearsofjoy:

Before you toss the uncool climber. I have a Summit open shot and always hated it, never could get comphy. Did a little mod on it, cut the seat bar and removed seat and use what is left for climbing, set top part bout waist high and strap it to tree with ocb. use it with a saddle and it makes you feel very secure, weighs bout 12- 13 lbs. Made a worst purchase into a good one.

Touche. Point was, tolerances are crap, it rusts instantly, bolts are like butter, even with proper gunsmith tools...but yes, as much of a POS it is, it performs flawlessly.....
Its also a $200 gun. At least mine was 30 years ago when I bought it.

Yeah, Mines a super mag. Think it was like 375ish at the time.. it was not on my regret list, I was just commenting i have one that is kind of a pos, but functions flawlessly, as some mentioned was a purchase they regret. And I do think it is a better shotgun than the mossberg 500...but notnlooking to start that debate :)

I gotcha. Yeah they aren't fancy but work great. I have the low end model Express maybe? Works just as well as a mud push pole as it does a shotgun. Mine was a rust bucket that was just sitting in a closet until I redid it and turned into my turkey gun, dipped the metal and put a thumbhole stock on it.

I would be afraid to know how many times my early 80's 870 express has been used for a push pole or to break ice. It gets a spray down with wd40 just before and just after season and fresh coat of paint every 5-6 years. It has most definitely earned the designation as a WMD...weapon of mallard destruction.

Well, I am, so too bad! ;)

Don't worry, I'll be brief.

Ambidextrous thumb safety. Slide release easier to access and ambidextrous. Barrel release nut not losable. Aluminum receiver won't rust and weighs less. Easier to insert/remove magazine stop for migratory bird hunting. Better bluing on standard economy models. Nutterbuster shoots one so it's COOL.

Edit: dual shell ejectors and a bottom plate that isn't in the way when loading shells.

Sojourner wants to know, does Nutterbuster always refer to himself in the third person? Sojourner thinks that is weird.

There are exactly 3 proper, go bang every freakin time, 3 shot duck guns that have ever been made. The model 12, 80's or older 870's and the belgium A5. Please do not come in here trying to extol the virtues of a flippin mushberg.

Oh dear...here we go :) ...

I"m right handed...no need for anything ambi. Like the safety to be function the same as my other non ambi rifles. I like a steel receiver. Considering how I beat on this thing, grit(dirt), use, and liquid(rain, lake water) pretty much creates a natural rubbing compound for for aluminum, wearing and causing slop(which I already feel the tolerances arent as good). Doesn't load low brass as well.... I only use it for migratory bird, so no problem with the tube stop. I"ll give you the bluing one, my 870 is painted. No need for a non-losable barrel release since the tolerances are better, it doesnt come lose on its own

I'll add one more...the 11-48. Though it;s full standard full choke barrel doesnt like the steel shot of these days....
