What hunting item do you regret buying most?

1. expandable broadheads

2. summit climber stand.

3. My wife. Can i say that? although she is great for everything else, she is not as supportive of my hunting endeavors as i wish she was.

That #3 item there will cover about 90% of ALL hunters....whether they admit it or not. I am happily married (have a great wife that can cook and I can trust) but she is no miracle princess about my hunting addiction. The one thing marriage has taught me is you don’t HAVE to get married to be happy. I wish somebody would have told me that years ago. Freedom to do what you want whenever you want is a beautiful under-appreciated quality of life. At least we will all suffer together.

I have a PILE of junk I have accumulated over the years. Some worked out by utilizing trades, some was basically given away on yard sales, and yet other equipment is still in a storage locker.

But my #1 buyers remorse item would have to be the Wild Edge steps. They cost a fortune, extremely cumbersome to use, noisy, and will basically kill you (NOT solid when put on certain trees).

The question I have though is why can’t they just let us have our Freedom without any grief?

If the shoe was on the other foot and she told me she was going to hang with her friends all day Sat or literally doing whatever i’d be thinking “Great,i’m going hunting all day”.

Id just tell her have fun and see you when we both get home. Life would be so easy that way.

100% agree

That’s more or less what the wife and myself do...but I was an avid hunter before we met and made it very clear I hunted before her, will hunt while we are married and will hunt after her with all the intensity I desire...but she gets mad if I’m passing nice bucks in attempt to get a giant buck...I agree with her now

Oh man, back when I was first getting into hunting and only hunted public I bought these folding ladder steps. It was like 4 3-foot sections of thin-wall, hollow aluminum that were light enough so that you could carry in and then fold out for a 12 foot ladder. They were not cheap. I would have made less noise if I had a marching band following me in the woods. TING! CLANG!

CS Lewis summed it up nicely when he said the source of most of the world's trouble was that men talk less when they are stressed, and women talk more.

My general observation is that women as a whole do not enjoy solitude the way men as a whole do. And, without pointing any fingers or making assumptions, I have noticed a lot of men like obtaining a wife more than having one, and having one more than being with one.

My mom and dad cannot, when pressed, name an activity they mutually enjoy other than having us kids over for the day. My wife and I share hobbies and interests. I think that's why I can hunt every weekend with my wife's blessing and he can't.

That, and I don't have kids and am only 5 years into the mess. ;)

Marry a woman who hunts and you'll never have this problem...

... Instead you will have a different problem: You will have to buy 2 of everything, find 2 bedding areas, mark 2 killing trees, and process 2 deer at a time, etc etc.

Or in the spirit of the NO SHAME thread, marry a girl who hunts, but only likes to hunt mornings, since everyone here is lazy and can't get out of bed. Then you guys can just take turns hunting and watching the kids. :p

Probably my XOP hand climber. Couldn't get comfortable climbing with it and it wasn't that comfortable to sit in once I got to hunting height. I think part of the issue with climbing is that the climbing belts weren't rigid and would get caught on bark going up. Also regret not selling it locally. Cost me like $50 to ship the thing.

I cant really think of any big ticket or high priced item that I regret buying but Id like to have the near million dollars back that I've spent on cover/attractant scents over the years.

Old heavy hang on that I dont ever plan to use but it was a good deal.....basically a giant paper weight

Expandable Broadheads

New camo anything. My old Army uniform work fine.

Hunting hand muff warmer fanny pack.

Something that I have not use yet so its an honorable mention:
Thermacell
