What vanes are you shooting?

I've been shooting Blazer 2", but used Heat vanes also. I use a Bohning Pro Class jig to build mine out, but the Bitzenburger just looks so much nicer, and like it would fletch so much better. This fletching jigs article talks about how high quality the Bitzenburger is, and I know a lot of pros use it. I know this isn't the main topic of this thread, but has anyone used a Bitzenburger jig for their vanes?
I use a bitz for vanes and feathers. I find that I have to adjust the angles for each because of how different the base is of a feather vs vane. Example, if I have it set up for a vane to contact the shaft perfectly, if I put a feather in the jig, the base will contact the shaft only on the corner of the quill. Have to readjust the angle of contact for them, which means a vane won’t mate nicely without adjustment.
Do you have questions about the Bitzenburger?

I hadn't heard that about Bitzenbergers. Probably something to keep in mind if someone is switching between fletchings and vanes. And probably also if someone is switching between left wing/helical and right.

I hadn’t thought about it, but my guess is if you use the straight clamp “which I don’t have” there may not be a need to mess with the offset adjustment to switch back and forth with plastic and feathers. It’s probably because of the way the helical clamps twist the vanes and feathers that cause them to not line up the same, but I don’t know. What I do know is if you stand a vane up on the base, it sticks straight up and if you set a feather down flat on the quill, it would actually be leaning on an angle.

Thinking about it, the base of a vane is symmetrical, while feathers are offset a bit. So it makes sense to me that I'd have to adjust between vanes and feathers. Probably a benefit to picking one option and sticking with it, rather than bouncing between different setups.

I have a blitz jig 30+ years old and still going strong with straight, right and left helical clamps. Depending on the shaft diameter you may still have to adjust the offset dials to ensure the base of the vane or feather is seated along the entire length of the shaft. It’s not a big deal just adjust it until it’s right. You may have to sacrifice a few vanes at first with super micro shafts but once set it should be fine and will be very consistent. One thing I noticed with feathers too is the bases are much thicker than vanes so you need to be careful on how deep you place the vane or feather in the clamp. For feathers the bottom edge of the clamp will be roughly 1/16” to 1/8” depending on the feather with vanes I usually snug them right up to the clamp. If that makes sense.

I recently upgraded to a bitzenburger jig from a Bohning Pro, it was worth the money! The Bohning served it purpose but honestly the Bitzenburger was so much better. Spend the money, especially if you want to try 3 or 4 fletch with a simple tune of knots. ESPECIALLY if you want to try smaller arrows, and high helicals! I just finished these today!

Dca super sabres. Have 3 right, 3 left and 3 straight. My arrow clocks left but I'll probably go right or straight only because the lack of lefty single bevels if I want to shoot those20230326_132003.jpg

Really, really like the Q2i Fusion x-ii 2.1

Kudu makes good SB broadheads...
How are those to sharpen? I tried the similar helix heads, I struggled to get them as sharp as I would have liked. The helix was kind if sharp out of the box but it was a big sharp burr...

Really love my Bitzenberger jig. It's over 20 years old.

I've had very good performance from AAE Trad Vanes, shooting them off of the shelf. They're my "go to" for rainy/snowy days. 3 white ones on my "rainy day" arrows. I like 'em so much, that I may not buy any more feathers once I run out of the ones that I have!View attachment 84671
That's a meat maker right there. Hope you dont get banned for using that bad language though.
