What would this buck score?

Buck above was 103 and something/eighths according to my tape. Extremely respectable here, especially for a 7.

Dad and I have a wall-full of 3.5-5.5 year-old south alabama whitetails. The biggest is maybe 110. There are some 90s in there.

I don't think the OP's buck has 120", much less 135. It's pretty tough for an 8 pointer to crack 125 typical.

If that bucks 103”, I believe OP could be 120”, it appears to have longer tines and spread.

I'm not sure why a few people have made comments about velvet. Clear as day thats all bone haha.

Not to mention OP's second sentence...."He has just shed his velvet"

I feel like he would go 120 but no more than that Brow tines are weak but i think the 2s and 3s along with decent mass through the beams will get him there That is about what a typical mature buck will look like on my place Lots of passing on deer over the years and good feeding but that is just what they are where i live generally

That’s a regional statement. 125” would be a monster 8 for you down in LA or me in western NC but pretty common in a lot of mid west and upper mid western states.

My buck pictured in post three is a stud 5 year old, that same rack is an average 2 year old in some areas.

This buck grossed 126 and net was 118 4/8. 2 years old in Illinois. Most 2 year olds are not quite as big as this. I didn't realize the lack of mass until I walked up on him. If he had 3 year old mass gross would have been 6 to 8 inches more.

Attempting to guess/estimate the score on any buck, is like trying to guess/estimate the weight on a huge bass, as it swims by.

I disagree to a point but I think I know what you’re thinking. It’s definitely harder when you are talking areas other than your local area. In my local area I have a lot more intel from 20+ years of seeing very similar sized bodies with antlers up top. I know what kind of mass is normal and IMO mass is one of the more difficult things to judge from a single pic

net scores are depressing. Shot a few close to p&y but the stupid net takes off 10"+

I seem to always shoot a nice 10 with a broken brow tine. and a short g2 on one side or something weird. or last season i lost my release and had to use a xbow the only day a biggin walks in.

Gross score is my compromise. I try to take good measurements and be honest instead of making crap up or inflating the numbers. I've corrected lots of ignorant/polite people who looked at bucks on my wall and speculated/declared that they "looked like, what, 120?" They are what they are, and what they are happens to be small Osceola bucks.

But danged if I'm gonna deduct anything!

Well I’m my opinion, people get too wrapped up in overall score anyways. I’ve been guilty in the past of being too concerned about score and go year after year letting the biggest bucks walk by thinking there is one bigger out there. In my area, a buck that scores 130 to 150 is a monster, we just don’t have many that will score those 170’s and up, I assume the genetics play the most major role. I posted this deer because my son was curious how much everyone thought he would score. I have told him numerous times though, that when a buck comes in and your heart goes to pounding, then he is big enough to take a shot. They are all trophy’s with a bow. If he gets the opportunity to kill a buck we will score him to see, but in the end it’s the thrill of the hunt that matters. God Bless to all.
